Is this the biggest socialist advance since the war?

    Without tenuous links!

I do know about you. You have posted up your views on things quite a lot. Unless you were lying, then I am entitled to read it as you wrote it. If you don't like how a thread is going and want to throw your toys out of the pram, then please do as you said earlier and leave the thread.

And btw, there was a wink at the end of my post. That was signifying a bit of jest.

  4. Have to say, I welcomed @sickboys post and political engagement. Politics impacts everything we do, and not just the small p kind.
We all have different views stemming from different experiences, which may change depending on past or current experiences.
For me, it's discussions like this where life happens and gaining a better understanding and knowledge of each other.
Yes, I'm a dyed in the wool socialist but I also appreciate understanding why people don't think the way I do. It is unlikely to change my views but helps me to understand others.

I have no dependants to leave my house to, no children at school or university nor elderly folks to look after (there's a boat without oars waiting for them at cleethorpes) but I will fight and defend those who do. And for it all to be fairer on everyone.

That said, I have friends and family who don't feel that way, dismiss me as a hippy and have voted ukip! We get into debates, fights and name calling but ultimately we're still bonded and can have a beer together. As jo cox said 'there is more that binds us than that which divides us'.

And I am still dancing because of tuition fees and U turn announcements and flip-flopping.

  6. Bum, meant to finish with thanking mods for allowing this thread. I remember the dark days of 'politics talk ban.' Dark days indeed.

What was that song from the wizard of oz again? :D

From where I stand I agree with people with money having to pay for care ( shock horror ) If you are wealthy, then it's only fair, but is £100k wealthy? I would have thought £500k is a decent ceiling these days, and in time to come more. If I left £100k to my kids in 20 years time they would have £50k each and that probably wouldn't buy a decent car!

sorry ermintrude your wrong about the railways ( branston is only a 10% shareholder in the east coast trains stagecoach are the 90% holders) networkrail which causes the greatest number of delays is publically owned but the trains themselves belong to private companies which the train operating companies hire . it is getting now as the profits are really slim to get bidders when franchises come for renewal however the cost in taking them over to public domain wouldn,t cause any real reduction to the 4 billion subsidy - some people say take it over and have a german efficient railway well the german subsidy is nearly 8 billion and its not all state run
the crux is if you want a cheap efficient railway the tax payer has to foot the bill

    Don't come here spouting facts!

My favourite at the moment are all the people spouting how the reds will finance their plans like the Scandinavian Countries; with no understanding that their income tax rates and VAT are massively higher than ours. Point it out to them and they just move on to the next cut and paste rant.
