Is this the biggest socialist advance since the war?

    Why?
I am sure you can make a reasonable argument to back up the Tories policies. Maybe you could argue that the new middle classes need a prod to take in their ageing parents and help them through old age instead of stuffing them into care homes to await their earlier demise and their early inheritance, and that is why the Government is introducing this ruling, to encourage the new middle classes not to be so selfish! ;)

  2. the people who will put the Tories back will be the people who traditionally wouldn't vote Tory. The tabloid readers and those that go for the sound bites, that go for the mudslinging and character assassination, who believe the drivel coming out of the media and who don't have enough about em to engage, to learn and see the system for what it is. Then there are the olds, many of whom have a black and white attitude and want the Empire back. (LOL)

    So here we are again.
Anyone who doesn't agree with you is hard of thinking. ("You" being general, not "you" as in you!)
    That's what I like about politics. F-all.

  4. I would genuinely like to know why dementia comes under social care rather than health care. Isn't is a diagnosis the same as any other?

I don't think anyone but politicians like politics. We do have to keep an eye on them ALL though!

It would take a very brave government in the world to classify it as a medical problem however my mother was so far down the dementia road it became technically a nhs problem and all her care home payments in her last few months were paid for by the nhs

  7. Correct! You made the rules up. Say what you want and put lol at the end (forgot the smilie face...damn)

  8. What's the definition of it that stops it being medical? My grandad had Alzheimer's we cared for him in his own home but sadly he died shortly after getting very bad. I remember him being able to go into respite but no idea who paid. It was mid 90's.

  9. Ironically, in real life - Warren Mitchell was a life long socialist and Spurs supporter.

  10. You actually know nothing about me or how I have historically voted. So don't make assumptions. This has got like all other political debates on here.

If I'd ever written "lol" at the end of anything I'd slap myself around the face with a wet fish. I'm not 12! LOL

It's interesting to see the demise of the tabloids, and by supposition their influence.

What should be a concern is that most news is read online - provided by the likes of google, facebook etc......those very same companies that avoid tax!

May has just been on TV trying defend the Dementia Tax and making changes to it - otherwise known as a u-turn.

Also, noted. Web address ending in.org.uk are for nonpropfit organisations, whilst .com was for business - hhmmmm.

Don't forget the Daily Mail in that list of tax avoidance

  15. Their headlines still influence and are everywhere when you go to the shops or petrol station.

So is saint Jeremy going to pay for full care for all dementia patients ? Now that would be interesting

  18. Either way, you can guarantee they won't pay for it. They'll just deny knowledge of expenses rules again.

  20. I do know that there's a debate ongoing about the social/health care bit and I think it would be preferable to fund that rather than massive tax breaks and sweetheart deals for Starbucks's et al.

For me the problem will all of it is making services 'profitable' with shareholders and dividends to pay and that's why it should be nationalised. No private company, insurance, healthcare etc, is ever going to say 'it's ok, we don't want to make money from it' or 'we'll plough anything we make back into it'. Branson only buys up the profitable parts of railways (tickets) and the expensive bits like trains and tracks are still ours to fix. I don't understand how that is even lawful? Oh and if he doesn't make profit (esp his NHS ventures) he can walk away with no responsibility or term to complete.
