If it goes soft you might have too much hardner in it - sounds silly I know but true - it goes sticky. Better off with summer mix and some heat. I've experimented in my large unheated workshop over several winters... sometimes we're just kicking ourselves up the arse aren't we?
yeah, I've gone that mad with the hardener before too I normally just stick a smidge more hardener than summer mix in, and go do something else for a few hours For instance, I finished off round the gutters, windows, and doors... popped some rust treatment on some small patches I'd found on the roof and tomorrow will be spent prepping the front panel, and flatting off the filler I did this afternoon (obviously starting with the filler first just in case I need to do another application ) Might even get to masking up tomorrow
I always use a hot air gun at this time of year for filler. Once you warm it, it's self sustaining, it just needs that bit if heat. It's a fine line between warming it and burning it though, it goes all crumbley if you burn it and you have to start again Great work on the van by the way
Been having an on/off/on Christmas with the van... finally got it all buttoned up and ready for primer... Dash stripped I was doing some prep round the rear arch, and spotted that there was some paint that was flaking.. gave it a flick with the razor scraper and ended up having a bit of a session Absolutely zero bond adhesion between the old primer and top coat... Bagged the cab, so I can paint the dash and door shuts So tomorrow, I'll be etching, and priming!!
Tell you what tho... If I meet the person who painted it last, I'd drop kick them in the balls... been a right ball ache prepping it, paint on unkeyed surfaces.. mostly in the dash/door shut areas... Plus I had to hoover the ceiling in my shed from all the cast off from stripping it back Gonna be proper nice laying some paint down tomorrow!!
Top work Paul. I'm very attached to my Bay...but would probably swap for one of these... Spotted in Crete all the way from Germany.
High-tops are all in a class of their own!! Have you seen the one that is an absolute beast on the 1/4 mile... does it in like 14 seconds Been a busy day today... I've etch primed, re-attached the awning rail on the roof, and primed the van too In etch Awning rail In primer Gonna have to leave it a couple of days to cure off now just to be on the safe side But looking good
Ahh cool - when we sprayed the cab of our 73 we applied 3 light coats of etch - not sure of the brand we used though! Cant wait to get the prep work done & paint laid
