    The guest - Rickyrooo1 .

    question

1 -- What got you into late bays .

I got into them by default really, i've had caravans on and off since my 20's, but we found we were using it less and less recently especially in 2010 when i think we went away once in it for 2 nights.....i always wanted a motorhome but not specifically a vw, i had looked into renault ones and transit ones but even old ones were silly money so it never got further than a pipe dream to get one, then out of the blue one year an old mate got in touch and we met up and he turned up in a 66 splitty, this must have planted a seed in my tiny mind....anyway the caravan was sold late 2010 and we found ourselves van free for the first time in years, then in Feb 2011 i started watching one man and his campervan and the little seed grew some more......within a week i joined this site and dredged e-bay and the net for a van, even at this point i didn't know what an early/cross/late was i just wanted one like the one off the telly...mid March 2011 i met Dubious off here sat in his van, he rang the man in america and about 3 days later i sent 7 grand to a man i'd not met for a van i'd only seen pictures of....i hadn't even driven one!

2 - what is the first song you would have on your desert island and why .

I've got a massive range of tastes in music so 3 songs is hard, i have phases of the music i like and sometimes i have a few years off one style and then rediscover it later.....a close contender for song one was showaddywaddy - under the moon of love as it was the first record i bought myself but i can't justify selecting that for a reason....soooooooo, my first choice is Adam and the Ants with Antmusic, this was the first time i suddenly realised music and image and i actually wanted to be in a band or be famous or suchlike.
Adam & The Ants - "Ant Music" 1981

3 - do you regard yourself as a lifelong vw fanatic or are you just going through a phase in your life .

No, as i said earlier on, i hadn't sat in one until March 2011, i've been a Landrover man for 20 odd years indeed part of the reason for getting the van was i knew i would need a "scene" and i had that with Landies and knew it came with v'dubs. I can't say i'll always have one because i never thought i'd be landy less - i had green running through the veins, but right now i'm obsessed with my van so i reckon i'm in it for the long haul.

4 - The next song is by my favourite band of all time Kiss, this song changed my life and got me into rock, while i was sat playing Adam in my bedroom my younger but cooler brother was playing rock in his room, there is an album called Kiss Alive 2 which he played a lot and off that album i kept hearing the song i'm choosing, i found out it was off the album Destroyer and that was and still is regarded as their best work. So here we have Detroit Rock City.
Song 1 Kiss Alive II Detroit Rock City - APR.2,1977 "BUDOKAN HALL"

5 - What do you do for a living at the moment .

I'm the warehouse manager of a communications company in the midlands www.commscentre.com we do networking and fibre optics etc etc, boring but pays the bills...just, i've been there 12 years next month.

    6. Third and last song here.

This is hard now, i have so many i want to pick and it is a toss up between Madness who i love and have seen live more than any band
or A-ha, as again i've seen them a lot too and they are awesome live, however because i spent many years playing in a covers band, and this song kills 2 birds with one stone being an ABBA song (who i like too) and being a covers band playing it so would bring back memories of many gigs to while away the time on the island i've picked Bjorn Again with "knowing me knowing you" live at the Albert Hall.
Björn Again : Knowing Me, Knowing You (ABBA) Live Royal Albert Hall

7 - Do you frequent vw shows and if so which one do you enjoy the most , if not , do you intend to visit a show in the near future and which one .

i did camperjam as the 1st show and loved it, it was very much like the landy shows i did but the companionship was better where as the shows with landrover were great, once finished you were off home or camping alone or with 1 mate, i went to camperjam knowing 1 bloke but came away with 20 plus friends, i've also done Busfreeze but if i'm honest the best fun has been had with some of the guys and gals off here in our own campsite/pub.

8 - Could you ever see yourself making a living from your vw passion .

short answer, no, i'm too lazy, i'll help anyone and i'm keen to learn and soak up knowledge but i just can't be arsed to do anything unless i WANT to not because i have to.

9 - what one single camping item could you not do without in your van

    cider or vodka.

Now nominate the next guest from the tlb members list and your reason for nominating that person ( it may be polite to pm them first ).
i'll check who's online and p.m them bear with me.

  6.
  7. The guest clowie (formally lowie till hf got board one day )

    question

1 -- What got you into late bays .
it just sort of expanded really from sitting in diane’s (mrs lowie)mum s caravan at skegness watching lesbian vampire killers (film)the lesser vampire girls had a bay and diane said “you need a hobby get one of them “so when the film finished we went on ebay and all the other car selling sites a week later and after looking at about 3 bays i got “tony"

2 - what is the first song you would have on your desert island and why . Guns N Roses Paradise City

just love this and any good old school g n r reminds me of being 17 again me and my best m8 used to have g n r nights where we stay in smoke a lot and drink even more and just watch g n r videos yes video thats how long ago it was

3 - do you regard yourself as a lifelong vw fanatic or are you just going through a phase in your life .
    hopefully
diane says it has changed me the whole vw thing i think for the better a few years ago i would of never dared walk into a pub or go to a show and sit down with people who id never met before and get leathered and thats down to a old van !!!
another good example over Christmas we went out for the day and on the way back i dropped a carb in for malc (pop top2)never met the bloke before but he needed a carb went in to the house and we sat there for a good few hours chatting i never would of done that a few years ago also done the same with mork but thats dubbing fact
4 next song choice and why
Oasis - Roll With It (Official Music Video)
same as guns n roses really different style of music but still the attitude reminds me of being in the pub about last orders time and everyone singing there nuts off badly :)

5 - What do you do for a living at the moment .
i make aluminium shopfronts, curtain walling, windows and doors and if they make i also install and repair them to
they do mostly leave me alone to do my own thing and it pays reasonably well for not a lot of work so on the whole i can stick but after 13 yrs there i could do with a change ;)

6 Third and last song choice here .
this is a hard one cos i am not a big music person but
    Robbie Williams - Angels
just love it and most of his stuff
*****also watch this one but a bit expisit ******
just makes me laugh very hard
    The Shirehorses - Arseholes
7 - Do you frequent vw shows and if so which one do you enjoy the most , if not , do you intend to visit a show in the near future and which one .
been to few but only for the bay my first over night stay was ruth last year and i enjoyed it even though i know i need to not let my kids and barney stress me out to much or just drink more lol also did bus freeze and that was good
i ve booked in for camper jam also doing elemental oh and really looking forward to spring camp think that will be massive
i think i enjoy the the late bay camping as much if not more than shows
hopefully going to do more this year

8 - Could you ever see yourself making a living from your vw passion .
    yes
i did look into buying a existing camper van hire business last year
but i could not make the money stack up enough by the time i d brought the business got a workshop etc it would nt of been workable for me
i am still looking for opportunities in the classic vw sector wether it be importing and restoring or again camper van hire so fingers crossed

9 - what one single camping item could you not do without in your van
the obvious answer is breakdown cover but a stove as i hate being hungry and according to diane i get grumpy when not fed
but i think she gets me mixed up with herself

i ve sent a pm see what happens
ps just like to say i really enjoyed doing this a lot more than i thought i would when ricky asked me or it may just be the vodka talking
sorry for going on a bit ;)

    The guest

    Charlieabbottuk

    question

1 -- What got you into late bays .

To be honest I don't know where my affliction for VWs came from, I remember having one of these as a kid
    [IMG]
and really wanting a Beetle but this addiction did not resurface until I survived puberty, discovered alcohol and figured out I needed to work for a living. I took a job, well for those of us olde enough to remember - a youth opportunity scheme - as a carpet cleaner and part time gardener. The full time gig was cleaning carpets and upholstery with a big steam system but we whiled away idle times in the boss's garden but I digress. The works vehicle was a bright Jaffa Bay, Viking if I remember correctly and I loved driving (I was going to say zooming but I know that you know so will try not to put too much gloss on it) about the Cambridgeshire/Herts/Essex borders in-between jobs. A few years later I bought my first Beetle a 1966 de luxe which I unfortunately lost in a Fronkjunior type incident where it was supposed to be restored but came back as a shell. But that was it I was hooked and air-cooled transportation was in my blood stream.

2 - what is the first song you would have on your desert island and why .

Everyone has a guilty pleasure be it a love of early bays, PT cruisers or Bonny Langford. This is mine
    Show Me
One of the first albums I ever bought and I loved every song.

3 - do you regard yourself as a lifelong vw fanatic or are you just going through a phase in your life .

Not a lifelong fanatic but I have certainly been bitten by the bug (excuse the pun) I have a 1957 Beetle which was my daily until the drive shaft disconnected itself from one of the rear wheels and I decided to have another restoration attempt. While it was at the restorers I have had a Squareback, 2 Buggies, a 411, several T25's, several Bays mostly ex fire buses, a 1303, a Trekker, a Karmann Ghia, a Spliity and a MkII Golf. I had hoped to own every model produced but never found an affordable Schwimmagen or Fridolin. Thankfully the 57 now sits in my garage waiting for me to finish it off but like any addict I won't admit to having a problem so its just a phase.

4 next song choice and why

I was into these guys after seeing a piece on The Tube about how it was the first album where they had made a video for every song so arise Sir Matt Johnson for showing me that music can also incorporate art.
    The The - Infected

5 - What do you do for a living at the moment .

I help scientists look after their data which is really dull and annoying but I also get to mess about with video and photography which is much more rewarding.

6 Third and last song choice here .

Difficult this, delve back into the past or try to prove I still got it, lots to choose from as the older you get the more eclectic your musical tastes become so I have gone with my most favourite band of all time.
    Cocteau Twins-Blue Bell Knoll
No I don't know what she's singing about either but when it sounds that lovely who cares.

7 - Do you frequent vw shows and if so which one do you enjoy the most , if not , do you intend to visit a show in the near future and which one .

I have been to quite a few although only started camping in 2009 when we bought the Shatsuma. Regular shows in the past have included Dubfreeze, Volksworld, VanFest, Stonor Park, Stanford Hall & Bug Jam but now we concentrate on the more Kid friendly shows. Highlights have been Elemental, RTTH & VW Whitenoise.

8 - Could you ever see yourself making a living from your vw passion .

Maybe from storage as I seem to have kept a few in my back garden for several years. I don't think my amateur photography will ever amount to much and although I can service a type IV engine that is about it unless polishing a turd really starts paying off.

9 - what one single camping item could you not do without in your van

Our two kids and the memories we are hopefully creating if Lyndsay is reading this, copious amounts of real ale if I'm being honest and proper luggage straps if i don't want to be remembered for the fire pit incident.

Now nominate the next guest from the tlb members list and your reason for nominating that person ( it may be polite to pm them first ). COME ON IN MARK & CHELLE YOUR TIME IS UP!

Thanks Charlie, sorry about the delay, assignments got in the way!!

    the guest, MorkC68...

1 -- What got you into late bays .

Travelling down to St. Davids back in august 2007 we saw a nice looking devon travelling towards Monmouth, family on board...looked really nice.
Michelle said how great it would be to get up and explore at your own leisure and be free for a few days. Roll on sept 2008 & Gusbus came to reside with is & Major last february!

2 - what is the first song you would have on your desert island and why .
The first song I would have on my desert island, Kiss Rock & Roll all nite - its a great song!
KISS - Rock 'n Roll all Night (Music Video)

3 - do you regard yourself as a lifelong vw fanatic or are you just going through a phase in your life
No Ive not been a lifelong vw fanatic, I do remember the old RTTS's back in the early 90's & how great a vibe there was but its really since TLB took off I appreciate some of the passion and enthusiasm that goes into them but most of all, what a great bunch of people we have met through this forum and in passing at the shows.

4 next song choice and why
Its got to be The Cult, She sells Sanctuary, its from 1987 when us teenagers started pubbing and clubbing, this was our anthem!
The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary LIVE 14

5 - What do you do for a living at the moment
I'm Test Laboratory Manager, looking after a lab testing fatigue and durability of steels, alloys, polymers and small components

6 Third and last song choice here
Third song is R Dean Taylor, Ghost in my house...just love this song, makes me smile
    R. Dean Taylor - There's A Ghost In My House

7 - Do you frequent vw shows and if so which one do you enjoy the most , if not , do you intend to visit a show in the near future and which one
Elemental is probably the most enjoyable show, not too big, friendly vibe plus it was our first TLB meet where we met everyone. Otherwise Bus Stopover, RTTH, Volksworld and Big Bang are our other favorites! For 2012 we are looking forward to Camperjam!

8 - Could you ever see yourself making a living from your vw passion
No I very much doubt it, I am too busy at work plus we have Gusbus and Major that need TLC, my degree is taking up significant chunks of time too.

9 - what one single camping item could you not do without in your van
Its has got to be my camera to keep a photographic memory of the great times we are having (I would say firepit too but that only keeps us warm)!

So, based on that note...I'll hand the mic over to...our old mucca Zed

    Dude is over to you
