Thanks for the invitation Malc 8)

I guess this is as good a time as any to post up my humble contribution.

    The guest Terrordales .

    question

1 -- What got you into late bays .

Not really sure as to why, but at a guess I'd say it goes back to my chilhood ( about 1960/61) when a friends father had a Beetle he'd brought with him from Germany in 1952. That little bug was just so different to the Jags my father drove or the Austin/Morris my mother had, you might say he was "the only bugger" in the village. ^-^
After finishing boarding school & heading off to art school in 1972 there was no way I planned on living at home ( not cool) so moved into a share house where 2 of the others already owned vans. Coming home one day I spotted a van for sale $200.00, a 1955 VW Panel van, & with our collective knowledge of such things it was suggested that it was perfect for me & so it was purchased :)

2 - what is the first song you would have on your desert island and why .

Nessum Dorma as sung by Jussi Bjorling.
Again a song from my childhood, I first heard it at the age of about 8 at a friends house & fell in love with the voices of Jussi Bjorling & Birgit Nielsen & the opera Turandot. My friends Mum eventually bought me a copy of the opera to stop me pestering her to play it every time I was there.

Jussi Björling sings Nessun Dorma (Digitally Remastered)

3 - do you regard yourself as a lifelong vw fanatic or are you just going through a phase in your life .

I cannot really say it's been lifelong, but I can't see being without a bus in the future.

4 next song choice and why

I've got a Little List ... from The Mikado
This one goes back to my school days with school concerts & this was one of the songs we could be a bit subversive with & from my fathers love of G & S.

I've Got a Little List - The Mikado - Gilbert and Sullivan

5 - What do you do for a living at the moment .

Teaching 'mature age" students in Technical College. The long term unemployed as we try & get them either into the workforce again or for the first time.

6 Third and last song choice here .

While My Guitar Gently Weeps ... George Harrison
Always was my favourite Beatle & a fabulous guitar player & songwriter

    While My Guitar Gently Weeps

7 - Do you frequent vw shows and if so which one do you enjoy the most , if not , do you intend to visit a show in the near future and which one .

It is a bit difficult with the tyranny of distance to get to shows over there ;D but we usually make it to a few over here even if it does constitute a 2000km round trip.
In no order RTTS (Aussie Version) Day Of the VW, Blast From The Past, VW Nationals
There is the Nimbin MardiGrass which has a camping weekend for us but is not strictly a show but it has to be one of the years highlights.

8 - Could you ever see yourself making a living from your vw passion .

No, I'm totally mechanically inept, but there may be other options

9 - what one single camping item could you not do without in your van

    Coffee pot :supsbrew:

I'd like to nominate Yorkshire Campers as the next guest

    questions

1 -- What got you into late bays .

Something lodged in my brain, and it was all the Discovery channels fault, Campervan Crisis was on and I thought ‘I wanna do that’ and the truth be told I needed a hobby to keep me out of the pub, so after much research and whole lot of learning I got my first bay. Then after more learning I got my second then I realised I'm too dumb to learn and got my third (and for this one I didn't have the excuse of being sold it by a woman with massive… er, eyes) but that was all put right by our ‘Colin’ current one and a keeper, at least for a while……..

2 - what is the first song you would have on your desert island and why .

I have a varied taste in music and I don't really own a record collection so picking a song is not easy I'm usually happy listening to whatever is on the radio. But I do love a song that tells a story so here is my first song choice-

Kenny Rogers - Coward Of The County

3 - do you regard yourself as a lifelong vw fanatic or are you just going through a phase in your life .

I do tend to go through fads (not the decorating store) and phases but they don't tend to last and this ones been with me for 3 or 4 years now, and I think having somewhere like TLB really helps to keep me interested and fire alive so I'm not planning on bailing out of the ‘scene’ any time soon

    4. next song choice and why

This song is a sunny day - out and about with the windows down and the radio up, it really is Summertime

    Will Smith- Summertime (High Quality)

5 - What do you do for a living at the moment .

I'm a garage door engineer, I fit and repair all manner of garage doors from your £300 to your £10,000 doors. I've been at it for 10 years so it cant be all bad.

6 Third and last song choice here .

As I've said I love a song that tells a story, and a happy ending is not always the hallmark of a good story, this song could (if you were that way inclined) bring a tear to your eye

    Bobby Goldsboro - Honey

7 - Do you frequent vw shows and if so which one do you enjoy the most , if not , do you intend to visit a show in the near future and which one .

I do now! After the last years RTTH, Dubs in the forest and Brighton Breeze, I think its safe to say we're hooked, we love the shows and meeting you good people and look forward to doing a whole lot more of it this year.

8 - Could you ever see yourself making a living from your vw passion .

I would love to, but I doubt it.

9 - what one single camping item could you not do without in your van

A kettle, there is little better in life than making a nice cuppa tea whilst out in a field in the middle of nowhere or a nice cuppa tea whilst sitting at a services on the motorway or a nice cuppa tea whilst…… Well you get the idea :)

    questions

1 -- What got you into late bays .

I've always been in to cars and once i'd grown out the boy racer stage, i moved in to classic cars as a hobby, started with a Triumph Spitfire and went a bit more upmarket with a Stag. In 2009 child number 3 came a long which left the stag sitting in the garage a bit unloved and unused, fast forward to summer 2010 we were looking at holidays for 2011, going aboard was going to be pricey so i suggested camping to which i got a slap and a big NO, we ended up going to the wifes aunty down south and next door was a VW camper (or as i know now a late bay) the missus loved it....... it's so cute......... we should get one........ So the seed was planted i sold the stag and a bit foolishly brought the first one we fell for....... so we are now in 2012, the van is in bits, will it be ready this year, properly not but the kids keep up my motivation to get her on the road with constant sing of Peppa Pigs "we're going on holiday in a camper van"

2 - what is the first song you would have on your desert island and why .

It's so hard to pick just 3 songs but for my first it would have to be the first song i can really remember, it would be Sunday mornings in the Evans household in the early eighties, Dad would be on a cleaning mission singing along to this

Engelbert Humperdinck: "I Never Said Goodbye"

3 - do you regard yourself as a lifelong vw fanatic or are you just going through a phase in your life .

I would have to say that since owning the camper that i'm starting to become a bit of a VW nut, i certainly don't imagine selling the camper once complete, so yeah i'm a fanatic in the making

    4. next song choice and why

This was around when i reached legal drinking age, and had many a good night in the local night club dancing to stuff like this

JX - Son of a Gun

5 - What do you do for a living at the moment .

I left school and trained as a mechanic but in 2000 i left the motor trade and went to work for GTRM (formerly British rail) doing track maintenance, it was just a bit of a stop gap but like VW's i got quite in to it (not train-spotting mind) and it became a big part of my life, 12 years later i'm still there, it's now network rail and i have moved up the ladder to Track Section Manager at Nuneaton, it pays the bills plus a little spare and i still enjoy it

6 Third and last song choice here .

I going to have to choose my wedding sing, soppy i know, but i can honestly say it was the best day of my life

    Enrique Iglesias - Hero

7 - Do you frequent vw shows and if so which one do you enjoy the most , if not , do you intend to visit a show in the near future and which one .

I have started to, mainly for bits etc, but once we're on the road, we will be try to attend as many as poss, to meet new friends and to give the kids some quality memories

8 - Could you ever see yourself making a living from your vw passion .

I think i could, but my day job pays to much

9 - what one single camping item could you not do without in your van

Having never been camping in the van i can't really answer that, but i would say as long as you have good company you don't need much else...............
    apart from beer >:D

    questions

1 -- What got you into late bays .

I have loved campervans from the age of 14 - part of my hippie dream was to own a van & drive off into the sunset and live off the grid. Fast forward to 2009 and Richard came back from a very rainy mate's stag do and fake whinged that he wanted a campervan. We started looking into costs and agreed that if we did well out of money as wedding presents we would seriously consider it as it would be something we could enjoy together. We started looking Jan 2010 and I stumbled across TLB so joined up to get advice as we knew nothing (I still know nothing to be fair). We picked Arthur up in Feb 2010 and I don't think I could part with him now - he's part of the family.

2 - what is the first song you would have on your desert island and why .

My first song is my default song - wherever we are in the world if there is a DJ I will at some point get to a certain stage of drunkenness and request this song.

    AC/DC - Back in Black

AC/DC - Back in Black (Live at Circus Krone)

3 - do you regard yourself as a lifelong vw fanatic or are you just going through a phase in your life .

It's safe to say I'm hooked - I love the culture and the people we've met. I'm not sure I qualify as a fanatic yet, but ask me this question again in 10 years and don't be surprised if there isn't another van in the family :D

    4. next song choice and why

My Dad has had a huge influence on my musical tastes. I was a Beatles fanatic until my early 20's and this particular song is probably my earliest musical memory

The Beatles - I Want to Hold Your Hand

5 - What do you do for a living at the moment .

My current job title is Purchasing Systems Advisor. I work at Imperial College implementing Oracle system changes and on the help desk. I've been there since Sept 2000 and whilst I am intrinsically lazy it's actually not a bad job so I can't see me leaving...

6 Third and last song choice here .

Tom Petty was my first proper gig - age 16 with my best friend Naurin. We met some college guys and smoked their funny cigarettes and thought we were total rebels - it was a great gig to be fair...

    Tom Petty - Free Fallin'

7 - Do you frequent vw shows and if so which one do you enjoy the most , if not , do you intend to visit a show in the near future and which one .

I'd love to go to more but finances won't allow it at the moment - Elemental and VolksWorld are musts every year. I love the camping weekends as much as the shows so am looking forward to Winter Camp and the Brewery Tour at the end of March.

8 - Could you ever see yourself making a living from your vw passion .

Not unless Firetec start paying me commission...

1 -- What got you into late bays .

I've always been in to the classic type car. My original plan was to get a Robin Reliant and paint flames on the back wheel arches. I ended up with a Metro. I've wanted a van since university after chatting with my friend and van owner Steve (Fitz). Instead my dad persuaded me to get a Series 2a Land Rover which broke down every 250 miles. Move on 10 years, I'm camping on a cold and wet weekend. My friend has a massive, converted ex-army Mercedes truck. I went home and whinged at Jen about wanting to get a van. She took me seriously and proceeded to start researching. That's how she came across TLB and the rest is history!

2 - what is the first song you would have on your desert island and why .

Iron Maiden - Can I Play With Madness?

Iron Maiden - Can I Play With Madness (Official Music Video)

This is my favourite song of Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, the album which sent me on the path of long hair, sore necks and ripped jeans. I picked this song because it is Maiden at their best. Fast, flowing and relentless. Harry's baseline is breathtaking!

3 - do you regard yourself as a lifelong vw fanatic or are you just going through a phase in your life .

We could pay for a deposit on a house if we sold Arthur. We are not selling Arthur.
    .
4 next song choice and why

Alabama 3 Hypo Full of Love (12 Step Plan)

A3 - Hypo Full of Love (the 12 Step Plan)

A beautifully crafted tune with uplifting music, yet a deeply cynical message. I never tire of this song, despite discovering it after giving up the herbal remedies.

5 - What do you do for a living at the moment .

I work as an outreach worker for vulnerable adults.

6 Third and last song choice here .

Michael Franti And Spearhead - Everybody Ona Move

Michale Franti And Spearhead (Everybody Ona Move)

I challenge you not to listen to this song and not smile. :) It's summer time whenever I hear this song!

7 - Do you frequent vw shows and if so which one do you enjoy the most , if not , do you intend to visit a show in the near future and which one .

Elemental. Chilled, laid back and pitched perfectly.
TLB Winter Camp. Cold but brilliant!

8 - Could you ever see yourself making a living from your vw passion .

If I could make money out of Wiseman Goes Wild, I would jump at the opportunity.

9 - what one single camping item could you not do without in your van

Cigarettes - Sorry I've stopped again.

    A serious answer: - A lighter.

    questions

1 -- What got you into late bays .

Paley had one when he was younger and has always banged on about it, and my step-daughter has loved them for years. A series of back problems and a huge love for music festivals meant I was considering a comfier option, but wanted to try one out beforehand. We had a weekend festival for our wedding which seemed like the perfect time, so we hired Daisy from Liberty Campers in West Yorkshire and she was my bridal car, our first night hotel and then our mini-moon too. Sssh don't tell anyone but she was a Brazillian wannabe ::)

2 weeks after the wedding and a little bored at work one day I got itchy fingers on ebay and thus we met Arthur, the most rash but best purchase in the world.

2 - what is the first song you would have on your desert island and why .

As everyone has said, it's so difficult to pick just one song. I've picked this because the Wilma's rightly told me that never mind a name, every bus needs its own song. This is one we had for our wedding so reminds me of the most amazing weekend, and it goes on nice and loud and the whole family sing along..

    Happy Together - The Turtles
    http://youtu.be/9ZEURntrQOg

3 - do you regard yourself as a lifelong vw fanatic or are you just going through a phase in your life .

Ain't no getting rid of me any time soon! I adore having my bay, and I adore the [glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300][glow=red,2,300]FACT[/glow][/glow][/glow][/glow] that we didn't just buy a car, we also were blessed with getting the most amazing friends for life too - Woody, Paradox, the Wilmas, Crazy Caver & Eveningstar and the Magical Trevor crew were the very first VW people we met (well I'd known eveningstar through work but never knew the VW thing) and I love them all dearly. N'awwwww.

    4. next song choice and why

Completely different choice from The Turtles 60's vibe - I find this haunting and majestic, and it gives me goosebumps each and every time I hear it.

Mercury Rev - The Dark is Rising.

The dark is rising (Mercury rev)

5 - What do you do for a living at the moment .

I do stuff with data and get paid silly money for it. Trust me, that's all you'll want to know :D

6 Third and last song choice here .

This man is immense, if you ever get the chance go and see him. Even if it's not the kind of music you *usually* like, you will be blown away. We were pottering through the Jazz Field (don't give me that West Holts nonsense) one Sunday afternoon and happened upon him on stage and have been smitten ever since. Oooh the things that man can do with a fiddle ;)

Seth Lakeman - Lady of the Sea

7 - Do you frequent vw shows and if so which one do you enjoy the most , if not , do you intend to visit a show in the near future and which one .

Our first one was Viking VolksFest with the above mentioned TLB lot. I have quite honestly never laughed so much in my life. Going to CamperJam this year and am giddy as a kipper as everyone raves about it. Still a little upset about rubbish Mardi Gras fancy dress though. I want to be a Gnome.

Possibly going to pop with excitement before March and the Spring Camp comes around. Cocktail dresses and Wellie Boots - that just about sums me up. Bliss.

8 - Could you ever see yourself making a living from your vw passion .

I harbour wild thoughts of the day we've got enough money in the bank to buy a farmhouse, get some more vans and I can pootle about doing wedding/holiday hire alongside rearing pigs and looking after airedales. It's a nice dream.
