If striking ever actually produced the results the strikers wanted I'd be all for it. But as it is all they are doing is disrupting business at a time when the country as a whole could really do with some stability. I feel for those in the public sector, I've worked in it and my wife current does but what's it going to get them? More than likely nothing more than a day off work.

Agree tbh i work in the private sector in retail and cant afford a pension. Wish i could. I had striking teachers xmas shopping in my store today which made me furious!

I'm seriously considering stopping paying into my pension and think bugger and worry about it when I get to that age. The government can pay me handouts then if I'm in poverty.
When many people have been making payments into a private scheme and then seen the 'pot' falling in value in spite of those payments, it's hard to argue that they should keep paying in.

I have minimal private pension provision from previous jobs, probably less than 20k value in total, which is predicted to buy less than £500 per year of income. I can't see any private pension making a reasonable return given that annuity rates will continue to fall - which is rather the same thing as public sectors workers getting their conditions changed mid point in their career. Anyone with a pension pot type arangements gets their conditions changed every year - for the worse.

Personally, I am just trying to build up the value of my business, which I hope to be able to get someone to run when I want to retire or just sell up.

I was on strike today. It's not just the [glow=red,2,300]FACT[/glow] that we're going to have to pay more, work longer and get less pension at the end of it, but also some of the contributions that I will be paying go towards plugging the hole in the treasury finances caused by bailing out the banks.

So some bankers mess up, and get bailed out, and are now back to paying themselves obscenely large bonuses again (the like of which I will never see in the public sector) and public sector workers will have to pay for it. Because of course it was our fault, right?

Can I ask just to clear things up did you picket or go on a demo.
Why will it only be the public sector workers only paying???

While people slate us public sector workers for our cushty jobs, we don't get the bonuses that those bankers do.
Well I've never been able to ring up work and ask for my holiday time agian bacause I fell ill during it as those in the NHS can.

but the point is every one pensions are getting a kicking its not not just public sector pensions being picked on is it .and yeah the bankers bonus are wrong
just to add we with private pensins take a gamble with are money as it is invested in the hope of a healthy return you in the public sector are back by the tax payer.

I've worked public sector and private sector for much of my professional career. There is a lot of waste in public sector and a lot of bad practice - the procurement operation for the NHS, the police, the MOD and the teaching profession is an absolute scandal. The ability to fail year in year out is where the public sector has it cushy - the private sector simply goes out of business.

Can't for the life of me see why some one needing to purchase equipment and supplies can only do so from a certain supplier when the same items can be got cheaper else were.
Is it that the bloke at the top is getting some thing extra.

Its about time the public sector was sorted out get rid of half the managers or at least demoted them to a real job.

possibility of bonuses/share options/dividends (private sector), Which is why I can understand Woody's view of being in two minds. Yes, it's tough for both public and private sector.

Shame eh? Cause all us teachers do is babysit other people's kids? £40...I lost more than that today and I am willing to do it again. Let's not be selfish about this. This strike is not done for selfish reasons. Public sector workers work for the public and do their jobs for the benefit of this country. We do our jobs because we enjoy making a difference. We are not selfish by nature so it makes my blood literally boil when I hear people say going on strike is selfish!
Successive Governments have swindled £42.7 billion from the teacher's pension fund since 1927. This is money paid solely by teachers and doesn't include money from tax payers. In any other sphere, this would be called theft. The money did not belong to Govt. It was not theirs to spend.
It is about time people actually stood up and said everyone deserves a decent old age. This should also include all those public sector workers who have chosen to help other people every day of their working lives!
I will now have to work until I am 68. The bottom line is, do you want your kids being taught by a 68 year old? Do you want to be nursed by a 68 year old?

I work term time. If l fell I'll during that time I cannot claim it back. I know some do in the NHS but that's because we are told we can do so.

Not under standing you there.

You work term time, ok you work while your kids are in school (I guess) so you take holidays when schools do so you don't have to take your kids out of school.

So why does this stop you claiming YOUR Holiday time again if you wanted to.

^^^^ I am with you on this. 100%. I don't know if I'm missing the point but I don't understand the procurement rules either. We have this sort of thing at work - if we travel anywhere, train/flight/bus tickets have to go through the official travel agent, even if we could find a better deal ourselves on the internet, then claim it back. It's daft.

People need to see the bigger picture. No jobs, carp pensions, denigration of the welfare state. This is exactly what certain politicians want...people arguing with each other when in reality we actually all probably agree with the simple fact that everyone should be able to look forward to a decent old age!

Try it my wifes way.

She was in the NHS and setting a deparment order what was needed with the limited funds she had and just gave the invoice to her line manager (a cock). She got all she need and witrh funds left over.
She's not one for the rules.
