if we don't fight, we tacitly agree and become complicit in the demonisation. if we had a chancellor with balls we wouldn't need most of these cuts. people not profit

not that i agree with the divisive rhetoric of private v public pensions but this is quite interesting given the media obsession with it.

Did you read the article?

It doesn't say that private sector pensions cost MORE than public sector pensions. It does say that some bloke has done some research that says that private sector pensions cost MORE than public sector pensions by defining the tax relief on contributions as a subsidy.

It also says that the author has got his figures wrong on tax relief (according to HMRC figures).

Did you read the article?

It doesn't say that private sector pensions cost MORE than public sector pensions. It does say that some bloke has done some research that says that private sector pensions cost MORE than public sector pensions by defining the tax relief on contributions as a subsidy.

It also says that the author has got his figures wrong on tax relief (according to HMRC figures).

actually, it does say that in the article (apologies for forgetting the quotation marks, and the emphasis was mine).
of course i read it and that's the reason i added it to this discussion; like i said an interesting article as most of the rhetoric around private pensions is that there is no 'tax payers money' involvement, as tax relief or otherwise.

as for HMRC figures, i'd always be dubious of those.

the strike was perfectly legal, as well you know (but i'm sure cameron will be working on that). i already paid in a days' pay and still i have the work to do that i missed on wednesday. my choice, to exercise my rights, afforded to me by the workers that brought all of us our working rights

i already paid in a days' pay and still i have the work to do that i missed on wednesday.

So what about all the poor buggers who had to lose a days pay or take holiday so they could look after their kids when the teachers went on strike, not only that but i wonder what the REAL cost to the economy was?????

My feeling at the moment is do as my local council wants to do , put more services in to the hands of the private sector, thin out the public sector staff, keeping the good uns ( i believe there are some!!!)

My feeling at the moment is do as my local council wants to do , put more services in to the hands of the private sector, thin out the public sector staff, keeping the good uns ( i believe there are some!!!)

thankfully, public opinion was in favour of last weeks strike action, which is always nice to hear, but, industrial action is supposed to be disruptive. many of my colleagues brought their children to the picket lines, and there were a lot more on the march through nottingham.
how much? a lot less than the royal wedding I have also asked my employer to donate the 'saved' strike pay (profit) to the student hardship fund, sadly they have refused.

unfortunately, putting services into the hands of the private sector has not proved to enhance service to the public in the past and i fear it won't in the future. and you are entitled to your opinion, mine differs, vastly.

public sector people are ordinary, hard working, tax paying individuals... i really don't understand the animosity and division. my 'gold plated pension' will be pitiful. but as education becomes more about money and not the learners, i won't be staying.

There is too much of us being set against each other going on I feel - my suggestion would be to find out where money really comes from and then you won't give a stuff about private or public sector pensions because it's the same sacks of Marmite running the show behind the scenes whilst brothers and sisters fight each other...

Happy to debate but defending someones right to say what they want when their views are ill concieved poorly thought through and prejudicial.... I'll pass on that (not referring to the previous couple of posters btw.

You do need the extremes in society to arrive at a concensus but the axe grinders will always have more influence as the rest of us get on with our lives.

HMMM , not with most the people i know, perhaps its alocal blip, do not tend to take much notice of media, they only want a story, we are all welcome to an opinion, but wish people ( ALL ) would look at the bigger picture, your actions may benefit 1 person, but how many pay or suffer???????

3 national polls, all over 60% in favour.
also, the suffering you refer to; all essential and emergency services are covered.
nobody takes strike action lightly, and those that do ARE looking at the bigger picture, that's why we did it.

I work in all the job centres in the midlands area ( as a ac engineer )
And I only seen 1 lot of strikes last about an hour and a half it was pointless only a hand full of people did it .
I don't have a pension I carnt afford it and the way some off the staff in these places talk while I'm there is sicking most of them think there better than others I'm not saying all off them but be lucky you may have something to fall back on as I'll have nothing
