  1. Funny that you think you are more valuable than them!

Without the private sector, people wouldn't rob your house! A) there would be no house, B) there would be nothing in it!!!

Sorry mate but folk from both sides need to understand that without 1, the other would cease to exist. Neither is better than the other and public sector folk seem to have a problem with this fact.

  11. Regards Public service folk being anti-private sector. I think to an extent you are right, theres and element of retaliation, an element of experience of Pfi and traditionally some envy of private sector pay (irony eh). There are also many people who work in the sector who dont want to work in for profit companies, a number who want to be in front line public services to help people in their greatest need and of cource people with socialist views who would find it immoral to work in the private sector.

    Takes all sorts eh!

  13. threads like this do amuse me. I'm guessing on here there is actually quite a broad section of society with totally differing views.

The have's = the public sector workers who chose to work in the public sector. They accept a job, be it nursing, policing, fire brigade, teaching whatever. Once in this system they get a pretty cushy deal - much better job protection, longer term future along with a pretty damn good pension scheme. I don't believe for one minute any teacher, nurse etc when they say they do their job for the greater good "I accept i'll be on a lower wage but can sleep at night because i'm giving something back" What utter garbage. But times they are a changing. Finally a government with some balls prepared to kick the public sector in to touch. Lets face it - any of these government departments, schools, councils etc would not make it in the 'real world' if they had to run themselves as a business. And the argument about the paramedic who would pick be up if I had a heart attack - its his fecking job - its what he CHOSE to do - if he didn't someone else would - its where my taxes go!

The have's = private sector workers - you know, the ones that actually design, build, maintain, graft, work etc etc. The ones who ACTUALLY boost the economy - there is no place in the modern world for over inflated businesses who are not lean or making a profit. They can't and don't survive. As a consequence of this, and the weak willed successive governments our rights as private sector workers have been eroded - zero job protection, crap pensions, but in some cases better pay.

I wouldn't join the public sector because I couldn't stand being around people who whine and moan incessantly about how hard done by they are, how down trodden, woe is me boo hoo hoo. I know lots of nurses, teachers, Doctor's fire and police - to a T most of them always have some gripe about the job they do and the 'appalling conditions.

The polls show just how deep the feeling is in the private sector - its time for the public sector 'Wednesday Shoppers' to wake up and smell the dirt - no one on the other side of the fence wants to listen to their whining and moaning anymore. Its time for them to put the open toed sandals in the bin, don some boots and get grafting.

Me, if i'm not happy with my lot I put up or move on. The world does not owe me a living.

    there endeth my surmone

    I'm out
    :)

  14. Too right. And there's something which keeps coming into my mind. Perhaps the Private Sector should get out there and demonstrate against the strikes. I beleive there's an overwhelming majority in the UK who simply believe the strikes are wrong. Private Sector have just as much right to voice their views. Our taxes pay the Public Sector wages. Our problems are just as big as theirs. In fact, much bigger. And there's a lot of talk that we don't appreciate the services we get. Yes we do. But because we pay for it, we're not going to bow down and lick your boots. Nor are we going to support action which'll merely wreck our beloved country more than it already is.

  19. Oh and as for the repercusions on others by strikes, a few of my mates or their better halves had to take time off unpaid or use holiday due to teachers not doing there job!!! how much holiday do they get??????

  20. Mostly said my bit and no point preaching to those who have such strong views. Respect your right to have your opinions. Good luck with them. Go on strike -that will cost you money!!!!

Just one note for the hard of thinking - people on strike dont get paid and if the public sector is so useless then why do you rely on it. Opt out and get everything done privately. Run yourself as a business (as some of the principled contributors above do) and avoid the tax that pays for all the things you dont want.

As for teachers well Dave makes a point about holidays and sickness.... I think - YTS for 3 years......hows that work then?
