  2. I'm a public sector worker, not all of us are well paid get great holiday packages.
I work in a primary school reception class working with children who need additional help, the pay is not that great I don't get paid for the holidays I'm off I just get a few weeks a year paid hols like most of you, but because I work part time it's pro rata. But believe it or not Mr Joker i really do enjoy my job, I'm 42 and think it's the best one I've ever had.
I do believe though a lot of the public sector should be ran like business, get rid of the dead wood, the private sector wouldn't keep a person employed if They can't do their job.
As for job security its the same as the private sector their are a lot of jobs going my wifes had to apply for her own job 4 times in the last 10 yrs due to restructuring. My job is yearly contracted but I knew that when I took it on.

  3. well said, that man

this is the majority of public sector workers, as I've said before, we have to talk about pensions in an inclusive way not public versus private pensions, but everyone's pensions, everyone's healthcare, everyone's education,

  4. Divide and conquer.

That's what the government wants and there's a certain element of it in this thread.

  5. You'd be surprised.

  7. well said baydreams!
my heart goes out to all those people that will lose a bit of pension
why do people think that if you dont work in the public sector you get a billion pound bonus? i cant afford a pension and the company i work for dont contribute even if i did have one.
i would go on strike but i would just get sacked.
its tough for everyone but some of us have it a lot worse.
typical mentality - i want more so i will work less! how about working harder and more efficiently like the rest of us have to?
going on strike is so 70's

  8. Ok here's one for the pot, my uncle and auntie lives in Australia have done for a long time, they are in their late 60's I reckon that they have only lived and worked in the uk for 10 yrs in the 60's and 70's they get more pension from the uk government than my mum gets mum and dad worked all their lives dad doing any job he could get public and private sector ( sorry had to get that in), dad passed away 2 yrs ago from an industrial disease mum pension in peanuts.
Wife Auntie who has lived abroad all her working life, gets a uk pension comes here on a plane like a bus service to see the doctor had a operation a few weeks ago and Hughes back home as soon as she is fit and well all under the uk governments expense.
Now that's why I reckon this country is in a state from all the spongers abroad.
I think if you've lived outside this country for more than X years you loose your right to a uk pension. And you need to live back here for X years working before you can get it back again.

Bless. I've not had payrise for 4 years and am not holding my breath until the next one. Unlike public sector workers though, I understand why it's the way it is.

We all know life expectancy is increasing. There is no simple solution to the problems this will cause, but one things for certain, whinging and striking certainly ain't gonna improve things!

  14. Funny thing is at the moment they're cutting yet more Public sector jobs, who do you think collects all the hefty taxes this country charges? So go ahead get rid of all civil servants then we'll be well and truly up **** creek without a paddle. I dont see anyone contributing to the countries coffers voluntarily

Ah dubweiser, so now you expect the private sector to suffer and the public sector to keep with their life of Riley! Sums up the public sector position perfectly.

If you don't like it, lump it. Simple.

    I'm out.
