Took it for a spin and pose down the Smiddy in Pickering, checked out NY500 not a lot happening.
Back home decided to sort out the screechy drivers window. Removed door card etc so as to drop the window to remove the inner window scraper which was the problem. Have ordered a replacement as mine has two clips that wouldn't seat properly so rubbed on the glass squealing.

  2. New cooker/sink cover finally finished.

Fitted carburettor service parts. Tweaked the idle speed up to 850 rpm, as it was down at 500 rpm. Must have had a slight air leak somewhere before, fixed when I had the engine out and checked things..
Low idle caused the engine to sometimes fall flat on its face and stall with a pop before the accelerator jet fuel reached it - yes the accelerator pump was working. Just if the air is going really slowly the fuel doesnt get to the engine in time..

I had left off touching it as idle running and any normal driving was OK .. until Wednesday when that went and the AFR rocketed with throttle closed .. fuel hose/dirt crumbs after disconnecting and reconnecting the fuel hose for engine out on last Friday partly blocked the idle jet.

Amassed new wiper blades, wiper arms and spindle seals to refresh those (the spindle seals leaked in Scotland) and a pair of new rear brake hoses, clips and trailing arm bungs.

I'll do the wiper area next week and refresh all of the brake hoses and brake fluid over autumn / winter along with new r/h front wheel bearings.

Walked through the front garage Wednesday with some bags of gravel for a path, a f***** sing blew off the wall and scratched Majors paintwork..said sign went on an outing down the garden :(

Haven’t connected up the heat exchangers yet, as…. well, it’s summer, but also the loss of time and the will to live by 8pm on a Friday! I’ll do ‘em tomorrow if the mood takes.
At least it’ll pass an MOT now that the old rusty silencer with the gert big ‘ole has been consigned to the scrap heap :)
    Sounds alright too!

Replaced the squealing scraper and hopefully it seems to have cured the problem.
    Bendy scraper evidence.

Also took the opportunity to waxoil the inside of the door prior to refitting the door card.

Arrived at Lyme Regis yesterday -parked van and closed my drivers door - the window disappeared into the abyss of the door - oops! Well I guess can’t leave the van like that so stripped the door card off and handles, winder and saw that the clamp holding the window at the bottom had broken in two. Small child wanting an ice cream so luckily there was a place 10 yards away then I set to what to do with window. Well again lucky as a little ironmongers / housewares shop across the street so I managed to bodge it with some epoxy and sat it on two washing up sponges. Got back to campsite ordered some steel stick putty on Amazon for delivery next day so could do permanent repair. My luck must come in threes as a fellow camper I was talking to around the campfire had exactly the stuff I just ordered so I fixed it this morning and ready to roll again. So good plan is to keep this steel in a tube in tool kit - mighty strong stuff!
Can’t believe my window did not smash but I guess those are the breaks! ( or not )

I think the new rubber tipped needle on the fuel metering valve is doing such a good job it closes off too soon so the float level has dropped. I did a quick visual check that the needle hit the seat in about the same place as before, but I expect the brass tipped needle needs more lift from the float to shut off, compared with the rubber tipped one.
As now I have a lean out on both main jets , the primary and secondary.. if I really floor it and get the power valve jet in action, it will richen back to 12.5:1, pick up and keep revving up to 4500...
No problem with maintaining AFR on a hill foot hard on the floor at lower RPM so fuel feed rate not so much a problem.. will investigate tomorrow ..

I'm off to the Departure Lounge cafe near Alton tomorrow for the Air-cooled meet up. Anybody else there by any chance?
