Well I must confess my resolution to the predicament I got myself into was to seek some professional assistance.

There is a clue to the cost of my ineptitude on the panel in marker pen but it got me out of a tight spot.

He’s not finished yet but I’ll hopefully get him back next week.

  3. Wish I knew someone locally who I could trust to take on little jobs like this - seems very reasonable cost wise. I just don't seem to have the time, space or inclination anymore and I always hated doing bodywork.

Hard to tell from the photo, but will you be able to preserve the original body seams?

I had to make all the seamed panels when I did one of these. The sticky out seams are a bit odd and you seem to have already lost the bottom of yours?

Packaged up my carbs and sent them off to Carburetter Exchange to be refurbished

I wonder how many people have told them they mis-spelt "carburettor" in the company name :D

I didn’t know the guy. It was word of mouth, through a friend of a friend. He works in a garage restoring / repairing cars but had been furloughed.

He says he is going to ‘fake’ one of the seams that will be lost in the welding repair.

He didn’t complain too much about my welding either ;)

It was a cash job for him and helped me out of a tricky spot too.

I guess my advice is - ask around. There’s some skilled people out there and it’s a good time try to help each other out.

Got the tyres back on the wheels, and the wheels back on the camper :)

Should probably get something done about this. The rubber bung is slightly superfluous as is....

    Et voila ;)

Very happy with the wheels, although they’ll look better when I’ve got the hubcaps back on. Better put a few miles on and torque them again first though.

One quick approach I use when confronted with something like that hole is a bit of filler to block off the hole, then use some Waxoyl brand underseal (its quite like polyfilla in consistency) applied using rubber gloves to build a sealed layer over the filler. It stops water going in as fast. Theres a place on my cargo floor where I did this 10 years ago and it hasnt fallen out yet..

  11. Gave her a good tune up :)

Put battery on charge as I had left the lights on :(

Debating if the rain will hold off long enough for a spin in Da Bug. But stuck waiting in for a delivery

  12. Get some thin galvanised sheet from Wickes for ten shillings, cut a patch out, give that area bit of a scrub, then stick the patch on with Tigerseal or Sikaflex. It's just keeping the rain out.

Today I fitted an RCD to the output of my inverter , so that the external C type socket outlet I have fitted under the bus is sort of protected , although the inverter's output is totally floating with respect to mains earth.

Because the inverter was originally (until Friday) a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) thing with a battery charger, when the bus is on hookup, it feeds mains power straight through to the output sockets, so having an RCD makes a bit more sense (although theres an RCDon the input to the bus too. )

  15. Finished getting the windscreen wipers back together, worst part was putting the glove box back in as struggled to get the strap aligned. Then fitted my post Brexit number plate on the front @monkeyvanwestybike the black/silver number plate needed replacement and I need to drive the bus through an ANPR controlled gate so this made sense.

  16. I do, I need a bonger

Edit : The crook lock knocked the turn signal on, I've done it before, most frustrating.
