  1. I certainly am! The brightness in my van with the curtains removed is so much better, and road views

  2. Yes, they allow the whole window to be seen through. Quick & easy one step open & close too.
Setting them up is less straightforward though.

Things to consider revolve around retaining them, gaps and bracket location. All the curves and seams complicated this. I had my fabric made when I didn’t even know to think of such things, so a better job could be done by you by getting the widths just right.

Curve of van top to bottom leaves a slight gap at the sides:

The gap can’t really be seen through but I like total blackout...

This off cut of oak will have rubber magnets to pull the sides to the body.

Same magnets on a bottom baton hold it against the body because of the top to bottom body curve.

Bracket location is limited by panel joints/overlaps. I got lucky despite trying to trace them.

The back ones ended up in the vent, but I can rivnut that for a neater finish.

Sliding Door one has to go above, which helps it pass over the rail.

That bulge gets transferred backwards though, but this oak bracket cover (will have leather over it eventually to hide the actual bracket), mimics the rail. Has to be retained with magnets again though to go flush to the C Pillar.

I also have a cab/cabin division blind and one on the tailgate (which goes from bottom up).
If this hasn’t put you off I could probably say more.

    I do like them though.

  5. Tested the water pump, surprisingly as it’s not been used since 1996, it still seems to work, which means one less thing on the shopping list

Went rivnut nutty in the engine bay, for retaining the perforated ceiling and other bits.

Jacknuts towards the front because my rivnut tool wouldn’t operate there - will have to just live with knowing they don’t all match.

  7. I am a numpty...

It was a lovely morning for a drive, until I ran out of fuel on the way to the petrol station, then it was a nice morning for a walk

  8. Further to testing to see if it fired up, I did a little test with some water, to see if it had the power to actually run properly, which it seems it does.

Plug between normal and rich but unless it was pulled immediately after a run, the idling with the choke on messed up the reading of the plug colour.

  10. That`s fine , a tad rich but without doing a proper plug chop you`ll not get an accurate reading ...

    :hattip:

  11. your right Mike it was pulled after the van was just turned around in the garage then sat over night.

  12. How much rust
    Can a V Dub crust
If you must let the V Dub rust?
Over 120ml in the Fresh Air system alone...and I haven’t even done an extraction with magnets yet!!

Expected this to be worse, given that there was so much filler I didn’t know mine had the ridges still.
I’ll have to just mesh & fibreglass this as a fix for now.

Perplexed as to how so much water can get in here, this far, to cause such damage. I can understand the drainage hole suffering (as mine has). There is more flaked rust than damaged metal though - lord knows where it’s all from.

In need of a RHS Cover Plate (or pair) if anyone has such a thing available?

  13. Styled it all the way to the lunchtime supermarket run; living it large in lockdown.

PS. Didn't run out of fuel this time.

I thought i may have a worn bush..... not at all.
    I have no bush!

How do i get the new bush in without removing all the linkages... ?

  15. Fitted a new door pull. They are crap compared to the OG ones.

Fitted my new mud flaps (thanks very much @Dub and Dubber).

Unfortunately they hang quite a bit lower than my old ones, so there is a lot of groaning from my back end now!

Looked at my full flow oil system, filter etc to better understand it & the direction of flow.

Ah ... I thought you would be losing the top section and making new holes?
    Silly me!

  19. I may well do.

This was just a quick trial fit.

Most of my time was spent trying to undo a 50 year old bolt.

It didnt undo, but eventually broke in two!
