It will if it doesn't open...

    though it should fail open.

  2. What position are your flaps in now? Ooooerrr missus!
Failed is. left side directing air through oil cooler. Right side up and open. I think.

Engine is not seized so it's starter, battery or bad earth.

It's caused you nothing but trouble and worry. Scrap it.

  6. Did paul touch the timing ,that could cause the starter turning it over slow...

Disconnect coil lead and give it a spin...

  7. I blame Paul 2015.

So managed to drive it home and it's now starting/turning over fine.

Though there was a bit of a knocking/rattle above 4K revs.

Couldn't tell if that was engine or gearbox.

Thermostat working fine as waited for it to warm up checked that it had opened and checked flaps were open. All ok

^ +1 hope it's something simple and cheap to fix.

Timing wasn't touched, just checked

It's that call you dread... something going wrong on something you've just completed :( Even though I didn't do any actual work on the engine other than pretty it up, you always feel like you might've done something wrong/daft

Only saw this by chance, haven't read all the thread.
    Bad earth?
    Dodgy ign switch?
I'd drop a wire straight to starter from battery 1st
The fun of not being able to bump an auto.
I got a new gsf starter.

Well put old bean. Usually you KNOW you didn't do anything silly but as the last person fiddling you have to check it over.

Sounds like a dodgy connection got disturbed as it appears to be running again?

  14. Just the rattle at 4k... but that might be one of those things that you "hear" when you're listening for something that might be amiss...

Rattles can be fixed with bigger speakers.
    Happy to help.

So I've missed some episodes in this exciting series...

I was watching the part where it won't work, then was recovered by the 'Manuel' of recovery drivers.

Presumably you were taken somewhere on the truck or what?

How did the van rise like a Phoenix above the flames of seized engine or shagged starter?!

    What happened?!!

I wish that is the case.

Will go for a drive and get a recording.

Second recovery turned up and before I let him load her up I did as everyone suggested. Put the Earth on the tow bar and positive on battery struggled to turn over and then kicked into life.
