Not hot start as it won't start this morning.

There is 12.64v showing on the multimeter.

    Lights fan etc working fine.

Anyone in Oxford fancy coming over to have a look.

    In currently at OX7 3JH

  3. Battery voltage is fine to start it.

    So problem lies elsewhere.

Not much use I know, but a start!

Could it be not enough amps to start engine as it's turning over just really slowly

  5. Unsure on that.
Only even known to check the voltage.
If a lead is corroded or not done up or earthing properly, then I guess the full voltage of the battery won't reach the starter.
Is it possible to check the voltage at the starter motor when turning over?

Unfortunately not - I'm on my own with 2 young kids to watch.

  7. Poop :(
Hopefully there's someone in the area that can lend a hand.

That would be ideal - I only know @Top Banana Racing or @oscar who was busy this weekend.

  9. If you was close I'd come lend a hand mate. But your over an hour away from me. sorry

How old is your starter battery?

They can show healthy voltage sometimes but not maintain decent amps.

What's your static voltage (ignition off, meter earth on the van chassis e.g. the catch where the engine closes, not the negative on the battery)?

What the static voltage across the battery itself (Earth and positive measured on the battery)?

A variance here can signify a bad Earth-take a few measurements with Earth on the engine case, van chassis etc.

Now measure voltage with ignition on.

Now measure voltage with engine running.

You should see around 14v with engine running.

Switch engine off...does the battery voltage drop then hold steady?

If it doesn't, you have a current draw somewhere (can your leisure battery pull charge from the main battery perhaps).

Take the Earth off the battery, if the voltage holds steady, but drops when you reconnect you have a current draw.

Most auto places have a free battery check and a drop tester.

  11. Might need two battery's to start it...;)

Just tried jumping it from breakdown lorry and no joy.

He thinks starter motor or engine. :(

Anyone know which starter to get?

Only difference on engine is Paul fitted a thermostat and tarted engine bay up hope that's not cooked the engine :(

  14. Cock. Ignore this.

Breakdown has been and now got to wait for recovery.

Looks like I'll be joining the club :( :( :(

  17. Could be. Often the voltage will be 12.6 at rest but with load drops massively and is not enough to get cranking speed. try voltage with the headlamps on and see if it is very low less than 11V. may be the battery in that case or connections. possibly the starter but not if its ok when you jump it. try charging the battery with a charger and then you will see if it is a charging fault. also if you jump it and get it running check the voltage then. it should be charging at 14.2V

  18. Where did he put the leads. You need the neg lead onto the block and not the battery. Flashing the positive lead onto the starter motor will then demonstrate whether it's a battery or starter issue. Is he a mechanic or an ice cream salesman. It shouldn't be difficult for a professional mechanic to diagnose.

    It won't start :(

  20. And he couldn't diagnose wnether it was battery or starter? What a @hailfrank.
