I would if I thought it was viable and not too expensive.

  2. what is wrong with it?

It's be slight fruity but nothing major due to the auto box.

I've ask Paul to build something with a bit more torque.

Basically build something that he's happy with, must be bullet proof.

Dunno beyond my capabilities and garage just said crankshaft.

Paul will be able to give full details once back in his workshop.

On the + side it didn't breakdown in France :)

Is your's the original engine? When I worked with the Met they had all Auto's to stop people buzzing the engine by missing gears - my conclusion was it's hard to accidentally knacker and auto.

It's been rebuilt in its previous life.

Either the garage are guessing and don't really know or its crank as they say. Either way I'm not going to risk it to France. Paul can get it back to his workshop strip it down and then give everyone the full diagnosis.

  7. Going on what Ray and I have discussed over the phone, then it sounds like it's early stages of a spun/failing big end bearing due to low oil pressure...

As to why it has low oil pressure, I won't really be able to work that one out until I get it all to pieces and I can give it a good look over!!
Could just be that the engine was getting towards end of life and having a little rest up at mine has put the final nail in the coffin of its current incarnation ;)

I think this is probably more likely.

But we'll all soon find out :)

I guess on the + side the rebuild will be cheaper as all the tin has been powder coated so no need to do that! :)

So technically we've answered the question that you posed in the title to this thread...

"Flat Battery - What to check?

    Answer = "Crankshaft"

  11. I checked my Haynes manual and they missed this one out. Nice tip.

    :( Sorry @Razzyh

So Paul's coming to collect on 31st

I've asked Paul to build me a motor slightly better than stock but ultra reliable.

It's been suggested by Paul/myself to have:

    Upgrad to 2056cc
    Vac dizzy
    Hydraulic lifters
Hi lift cam for extra torque lower down the Rev range.

Paul's going to run it in and also get it rolling roaded so it's ready to go once I get it back

    Can't wait :)

  16. so has the hiccup messed with any of this years plans ?

Yes currently in France sleeping in an awning and a few other trips planed will now, no doubt either be cancelled or in the awning.

Van should be back in time for our August holiday.

  18. Doesn't an awning without a van leave a gaping big hole on side?

  19. You wish...:D

More worryingly it can sell the idea that a van might not be necessary to those with less conviction
