  1. When you take a look could you also do me a favour and take a photo of the bar that holds the gearbox mount against the bus
I think i can see it sat on top of the box in your pic

  2. I think your right it might be that breather hole. Why would the oil rise up and out of the hole though? Surely oil wouldnt rise for no reason?
Yeah no problem para, do you need dimensions too?

Apologies, I thought you meant under the gearbox (as it stands in the pic).
You can get a gasket set quite cheaply + it's fun and harmless to have a look inside the nosecone and you might find something you can replace to tighten up the gear selection. Also the driveshaft and selector shaft seals are easy to replace if there's evidence of leaking.

It takes a while for the oil to work it's way through the box after up-ending.

  5. Just a picture will be fine for now cheers carl
Mine appears to have a diy knocked up piece and id like to see another one to compare them
Im also missing those rubber dougnuts from my gearbox mount
I take it they just slide on the shafts?

  6. Alright mate. Ill get it for you tomorrow afternoon.
Yeah cheers zed. I think ill be buying quite a few bits to tart it up. Wouldnt want to put it back then find an issue

  7. as requested paradox,
and yes the doughnuts just slide on.

  8. Cheers carl

It seems i need to add one of these to the needed list then

  9. Paul Weeding, ive been looking into that fe-123 rust remover.. i seem to remember you recommending it ages ago.

basically on the underside of my cargo floor, and on some of the top hat sections i have some rust, but not enough to warrant a new panel.
can i just paint this gunk on and be done with it?

its worse than surface rust, so it probably wont just come off with a brush.

  10. I had a quick go at the gearbox after i got in from work today. and i under estimated what a bleedin mess it would make..

    covered in gunk..

    and there is crap everywhere!!

  11. Got any pictures of the area in question?

It's an encapsulator as well as a converter... seems to work quite well... I painted para's cab floor with it, as it was in bare metal... and that was back in october, I've not put anything over the top of it, and it's just gone a blue/black colour and stayed at that!!

It does say on the side of the tin that you need to clean back any loose rust, and leave it as a "ginger" surface, and just paint over with it!! You can also dilute it up to 50%... I've done that a couple of times and sprayed it on as opposed to brushing it!! :)

  12. Ill get a picture tomorrow for ya. I was going to just get under there and flap disc/ wire wheel the rust off as much as possible then jenolite. But id get absoloutly covered in crap and probably catch some in the eye. :/

  13. I managed to get a top hat section for free thanks to redoxide, and got it welded in today.
after a lot of measuring and fettling,
    [IMG]

also had to chop a little more of the floor out,
    [IMG]

and these are the bits ive made to go back in.

heres some pics of that rust.. Paul Weeding

    after some wire brushing.

and the underside of the cargo floor. looks worse with the flash.

  14. oh also... the tube that the wiring loom sits in, that runs down the middle of the van between the crossmembers...

does anyone know how to replace it?
my wiring loom is still in and if i take it out ill never be able to put it back in. any ideas?

  15. I've heard of people using plastic conduit... split it along the length, and you can clip it over the loom!! :)

  16. The 123 should work on that just fine!! looks pretty solid apart from the obvious surface rust...

What're the chassis rails like? They look like they have some heavy pitting on them!!

  17. yeah the n/s one is fine. the offside one in the picture has some really big blobs of rust on it, i havent poked around yet but it looks like i'm going to need to do some repairs.
its only the bottom 1/2 inch though, can you buy a repair piece for the chassis rails?

yeah sounds like a good idea with the conduit, ill get the old pipe off first and see how much i can save. and ill get some 123 tomorrow.
    thanks paul.

  18. i'm nearly at the point of getting my sills on, i did 1 or 2 minor repairs to the top hat sections and rear outrigger, then gave the inner and middle sills a good coating of zinc paint and stonechip to protect, then welded the two together..

here it is, tacked on for now, so i can sort the floor out 1st.

then had a look at the floor repairs i made.

once my 123 arrives and some redoxide ill get the rest of the floor in.

  19. Really like your fabricated cargo floor repair sections, how did you do that. I am inspired!

  20. finished cleaning up the gearbox today..

then i thought the black was a tad bland.. and i found half a tin of gold enamel..

still not too sure if i like the gearbox colors or not. ill finish the starter motor and put some new bits and bobs on and then ill decide.

also i got a litre of fe-123 rust remover.

    this isnt even painted..

i've got a lot of black enamel left so ill paint the bottom of the cargo floor next week to keep the rust at bay.
