  1. nice work 8)

theres a few of us painting black shiny bits at the moment it seems ;D

  2. Nice one dude

I cant help feeling ive infected other members with my painted parts ocd lmao

Have you checked the condition of your wheel bearings whilst its all apart ?

  3. i know the next step is to paint the beam and then the rear end lol
i did check the wheel bearings and there mint no faults from what i can see but i do need a tub of grease for the rebuild .
then paint ain perfect but it should help protect it under the van

  4. Keep up the good work dude it will all be worth it in the end

  5. and were is the best place for ball joints i need all 4 to go on the arms i think i should get that done before painting them too

  6. I bought mine from vw heritage

  7. Or you can exchange your old arms for new ones with ball joints pressed in at coolair

  8. cool ill have a look at cool air may be easyer in the long run

  9. well after sitting here really bored i thought id strip the brake calipers of the van as the beam is off anyway .
so with only a snap on torch and some spanners and wd40 i got them of {that tourch is the best 15 pound ive spent lol]
once off i started to strip them down so i can replace the seals as there abit damaged and the crap has got under them stoping the one piston moveing right from the look of the pads .
the pistons are soaking in wd40 to get the dirt loose ,once i did all that i gave the other parts alittle more paint in the places i missed ;D
not the best update and the same old pics but there you go

  10. Its like de ja vu reading your thread of late dude lol
Keep at it mate its all progress no matter how small of a job its still one ticked off the big list

Bolt them calliper halves back together and put on air line into the brake hose hole it will pop the pistons out so you can clean them up and check them and of course replace the main seal aswell as the dust seal.

Keep your fingers out of the way though as they can pop out with some force

  11. lol i know not much off an update .
tomoro i will bolt them together again to push the pistons out could not do it tonight as its too late to start the compressor .
just looking for rebuild kits ,there are to little seals once you split them in half and the dust seal ,is there an iner seal once the piston is out ?i will replace them all after a good clean and paint

  12. Yeah theres an inner seal dude thats the essential one to change but you get that and the dust cover seal in a kit

Are the square edge seals between the calliper halves in servicable condition?

They dont all have to be a big update dude

Remember the hare and the torstise story?

    Slowly slowly catchy monkey

  13. Cool I'll get a kit ordered then , the seals in between the two half's are fine and the faces that bolt together look good .
Got to find my blow gun for the air line to pop the pistons back out or I'll have to use a bottle of ofn and gauge line out of the van

  14. Done abit on the beam today , first I cut of the adjuster plate that was on there and cleaned it up for welding again then started to fit another adjuster that I brought on the way back from work but it turns out its for a beetle but they can be used on a bay you just need to make it wider to fit the tube and the adjuster are abit stiff but do move with a little nock ,so should be ok

So I also had to grind and drill out all the welds someone had put on the top adjuster after that was done i cut the servo bracket off and moved the damper bracket to the other side.
All that's left to do is heat up the top adjuster bracket so I can get it to fit better then clean the welds and paint

I did paint the shock towers after a clean up and I found a number must be an import number ? [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

  15. Now get a set of drop spindles - then down 2 clicks in the rear - sorted - Ash " low is the new high believe me"
    When you have dropped the van onto the trailer ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) 8)

  16. Looking good dude

Im a bit worried about the beetle adjuster though as the beetle beams are smaller in diameter to bus beams

Once you have the height you want then you can weld it all up so it wont move so its no big worry if you do that

  17. The back is going lower too :) as for the trailer I'm looking into that dale just unsure how to go about it

The beetle adjuster will fit just needs a little bending but it's not a lot different from the bus one , the bit on the inside of the beam is tight to move so once the there bolted up I don't see it moving much but like you said weld it if I'm not happy later

  18. Well after 4 days off work I've done sod all on the van but did buy the new seals for the calipers I also got 4 new ball joints for the beam arms all which came from gsf
When I asked for what I needed it came to nearly 80 odd pound then the bloke says hold on I've been priceing for the more expensive ball joints so after a few clicks of the computer it was around 60 pounds with the seals .
I will up date soon as I start :)

  19. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

If you're going on a trailer trip to Dales, I'd do it before you lower it - Lowered vans can get a bit stuck if you don't have long ramps.

  20. fair point ,its only the front for now .
i just need to get these ball joints done and fit the beam back to the bus, well that is the plan.
how many clicks on the back should i go i dont want it reallt low just to sit nice and level ish
