OMG I just got the engine started for a few seconds, was very very loud and smokey because the exhaust isnt on yet
Get it bolted on then.. you'll be tuning tomorrow and out for a spin! Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
I've stopped now as I will definitely upset the neighbours without the exhaust on. I have such a big smile I honestly thought I was going to have to take it to a garage
Take it to a garage...never..with the wisdom and experience on here it can all be worked out...eventually...
Your problems started by taking it to a garage. Don’t make that (expensive) mistake again. Just out of interest what did you set the hydraulic lifter preload to?
I would answer that if I knew what you ment , I am guess this is important and something I should have done
Well done Couldn`t believe you were contemplating a return to the garage of doom after the mountain you`ve climbed and learning how it all goes together - chapeau sir
I'm not out of the woods just yet I'm fighting with the exsuaht at the moment and need to fit the tin were around the fan and but I honestly wouldnt have been able to get this far without all your help
Before you start it read about setting the tappets for the hydraulic followers. Did you fill them with oil? Is the timing set or just guessed to make it start?
Solid lifters are set with a gap – tappet clearance – but hydraulic lifters must have a preload. The adjustment procedure is the same as for solid lifters but instead of setting a clearance you screw the adjuster until it just touches the valve stem, then a further 1½ turns. It’s not super critical, and not everyone agrees as to what is should be, but it should be something, some say ½ turn some say 2, anywhere in between is fine.
Wheres the man gone? He can't leave us hanging....! Have the neighbours got their own way and removed the bus, leaving him lying in the layby, looking up at nothing? Did the big backfire take him out at waist level? Has he bogged off, camping, in a perfectly running bus? What? Where? When? We need to know!
Hahah sorry I took a little trip to the seaside yesterday sadly I went in the car. I can get the engine started but only if i give it gas. Wondering if there is another issue that isnt the timing
Maybe not got the copper gaskets Wrong. It's easy and if you drive it first you could wreck it on the way. Timing light, cheapest is fine. £20-30 well spent. That's it. Carbs should be fine and can be balanced by eye if not. Did you fill those hydraulic followers? If not you'll have to fish them all out again. No getting around that and no engine running beforehand.
