Compression issue? Parts and guide to fix

  1. Black and blue usually oil pressure switch.. so I'd guess the black goes with it over towards the coil as they both plug in the same area of the engine.. but that's a guess..

I think it may go under the voltage regulator, but can’t remember, is there a spare wire from the loom near there, I seem to remember there an alternator wire / oil wire common connection

ps , someone reported your van cos they are bell ends , happens all the time when the “better than you” brigade see a hard working person “ cluttering “ up the street “THEY OWN”

  3. Would the timing stop the engine from starting?

    Yes.

  5. :(

I cant work out if I put the engine back together wrong, if the wiring is wrong or if the timing out. I've decided to have time away from it before I'm driven around the bend ha

  6. If you got your two dots in the right place.. inside should be ok.. you can work around the rest to sort....(as long as it spins too) Best have a break if it's doing your head !..

  7. So the engine spins freely, 95% sure the wiring is correct, so I am learning towards timing. Plus with setting the new cam 180° differently.

From what I understand is I need to set the dizzy to point the no1 then match the lead up? How do I know if its pointing at one or 180° out, I tried taking the rocker cover of and looking but that didnt really help

  8. Get the engine to TDC, then check the rockers on no1 both should be loose and so should the intake on no 2 (that's the next rocker along so 3 in a row) as a check.. if not have a quick check at no3 if they're both loose and intake on no4 then the TDC you're at is for No3.

If you're at No1 and the arm is where you like it check your it leads are going anticlockwise 1234 from there. If your at no 3 put it 3 to where it's pointing and go 3412 anticlockwise from there .

Providing you did the dots thing right between cam and crank...it doesn't really matter where your rotor points as long as it goes to the right chamber at the right time

No. 1 gets to the top twice. Once after it's pushed exhaust out and begins to suck petrol, the next time with both valves shut to compress the mixture then fire.

So, get timing mark on pulley lined up and check the valves on no.1 are closed i.e. rockets loose at when setting them.

If they are not, turn pulley 360 degs so mark is aligned again and check the valves as before.

Now look where the rotor arm is pointing, that corresponds to no.1, put it's ht lead on the cap in that position. Follow round the cap clockwise 4, 3, 2.

Nearly there. Points or elec ignition?

  12. I officially give up, after a backfire blasting the s pipe after the air filter off. I think it's time to take it to a garage to finish off I've done all the heavy lifting.

I've watched so many videos and read how to set the timing but I just cant get my head around it.

  13. A bangs a good start. Shows you've got fuel and spark....

Keep forgetting you have hydraulic lifters.. so you shouldnt get loose lifters..

Not sure what the procedure is with them to get started.

Timing wise check intake on no 1 has just closed a bit before where you think no1 is firing

Me and a customer were doing this at 3am (don't ask) and my missus phoned up just as he turned the key. She thought I'd been shot! 180 out- move the leads round 2 places. :)

  20. Have you swapped the leads like Zedders says yet?
Come on.....ive been watching all the way, but not added anything as my knowledge is limited to making things shinier.......
