Unfortunately people I have spoke to now who have fully followed the advice are now saying they are going to do whatever they want.
We now have a world beating track and trace system in place so you should be ok

  2. A few months ago I was living opposite the racecourse. I am so f*{%}^g glad I moved before the races happened this year. When they said the races were still going ahead we (the people living nearby) were livid. Except those that stood to make money from it of course.

  4. I don't think (sadly) that this will be over until there is immunisation, there are too many asymptomatic people walking around AND THE GOVERNMENT STILL ARN'T TESTING EVERYONE.

Well exactly. I'm a gnat's whisker away from that myself. It's galling to to know massive amounts of people are not taking much notice and not dropping like flies while myself and others are ruining our lives apparently for the common good. Let's try and keep any politics out of this for a mo, there are other threads for that.

What concerns me is there are people , good people, honest, sensible people that have played by the rules throughout and are slowly coming out of this ‘hibernation?’ and still playing it by the rules , only doing the bare minimum and within guidelines.

then there’s the plebs , scumbags, selfish, inconsiderate , greedy , horrible dregs of society that don’t care what they do, what their kids do and will show No thoughts for others that will drag this on or maybe cause another spike.

I see it all the time round here and I’m sure it’s the same for other towns, groups of kids ‘hanging about’ in groups , cars cruising full of lads , whenever I’ve been shopping ( and believe me it’s had to be essential needs ( mainly beer)) there’s people in the shops browsing and mooching around ... get in , bag it and clear off ffs..

In my opinion we should be allowed to use our common sense ... problem is not all of us have it ..

  11. I think this is becoming the underlying general consensus Steve. Many people haven't been obeying the rules for some time now and the virus is not actually very widespread in the community (7% of the population?), so its not "close to home" for many. I must confess I just want it to be over with now and the policies from government don't seem to make an awful lot of sense most of the time. Therefore, I am taking a common sense approach to reducing risk while trying to get back to some sense of normality.

Sorry zed but it's difficult to separate the two.
I was questioned a few weeks ago on why I thought we locked down too late and now your question really is about coming out of lockdown.
Having known somebody who died because we didn't lockdown soon enough maybe if we had, we could have got out of this more quickly.

  13. I fear it is mentally affecting us all . You do strange things when this happens . Keeping control of your mind and worrying about those close to you and all that . I do know you zed and as you say someone with your life style hopefully is less likely to catch this . None of us know how it will affect us if we do catch it or others around us . Every one thinks and lives differently . Just do what makes you happy if you can ,which is really hard at the mo isn’t it .

  14. I think the biggest damage will done by people who have taken the relaxation of the restrictions as an opportunity to revert to normality. To see the thousands of people at the beach this weekend looks like madness to me.

I would suggest anyone that is considering doing the same to look at the footage of Durdle Door beach yesterday, when two coastguard helicopters landed to airlift a few idiots that jumped off the Door into the sea.

If this is proven to be a mistake and we go back to full lockdown it should bring down this government. If this level of interaction is deemed acceptable then we might as well open up football, pub gardens etc now as well.

    EDIT:

Just to add that i have been doing work site visits across the south of England for a couple of weeks under the essential/key worker criteria and can assure you that even in those circumstances, social distancing and PPE guidance in the workplace is already failing.

  15. The virus and politics are now inextricably linked. As the government seems to be no
Longer followingn’the science’ and loosening lockdown to distract from the pair of clown’s actions that are running the show .

How can the risk level be 4 - and unchanged at 4 , which, by their own rules states - no change to the level of restrictions. Yet, the biggest loosening of Lockdown starts tomorrow if not to move the narrative on from their own blunderings, obsfucation and lies?

  16. To be fair, most of us are, quite rightly, doing it to protect ourselves and those close to us. Your circumstances are particularly difficult and all I can suggest is to carry on with your own levels of isolation as long as possible, whilst taking gradual steps outwards, based on risk and infection rates in your vicinity.

You are not ruining your life, you are protecting it.

  17. I had to pop into Tesco yesterday, to pick up a couple of bits for my elderly mum.....we haven't let her out since it started, as she has health issues.
She doesn't 'get' what its like, as she hasn't seen it.....and is desperate to get down the shops.
Yet the place was packed, with people in bikinis\sarongs, flip flops, beachwear in general, buying alcohol and BBQ stuff, in groups.

Clearly, yesterday was the day a lot of people will have caught something.
I also heard through a friend, about a group of people, all from the same family, who went to the beach on Friday...... Yesterday, the father came down with the virus and is in hospital being ventilated today......thats how quickly it went from nothing, to a big something.
So who else got it from him.....he must have known beforehand?

    Anyway.....im screwing my loaf. Others aren't .
    thats the problem.....

  18. The schools and nurseries are opening from tomorrow - blowing hot and cold about this for the kids - they are a low risk from it but then would it be sensible to see our older( not frail just over 70) parents? Should we keep kids off school and be more comfortable about seeing grandParents or does it not matter one iota as the restrictions have all gone west following last weeks omnishambles and we are all being manipulated..

I’m not Tory bashing before anyone starts banging on about that - If it were labour making such a farce of it I would not defend them. In fact, I care little about who is in power I just would prefer the most competent/least evil power hungry narcissist of the time was in the hot seat.

I was in the kitchen making my morning coffee as I do with R4 on, it was the God slot which I don’t normally listen to, being a godless heathen, but there was a Bishop on saying it seemed strange some many places would be allowed out of lockdown tomorrow but not places of worship. Seemed a fair point to me.

We are where we are today and I'm interested in what y'all personally make of the virus going forward, not the politics.

On my happy ship our conclusion is that it isn't as deadly to the vast majority as we feared. Of course it's difficult to be sure, but that's our impression. Our conclusion is that the reaction in hindsight may have been OTT and also living merely to exist is good way of inadvertently pushing vulnerable people over the edge into depression.

Would it be better for society as a whole just to get on with it? I only know I'm fed up with the whole thing, how it's being used as a political hammer, the mistrust between believers and naysayers, the fear and suspicion of people JUST PASSING BY FFS. It's not good.
