Catching the virus

With the greatest respect to all who have lost family and friends to the virus, to those who fear the same and like myself have been following the guidelines 100% in my case surrounded by folk who would not do well if they contracted it...

I live on a marina. It's a small community, perhaps 100 people, but we do have to venture out. We have nurses, plumbers, lorry drivers, people who came back from Spain in April...so we're not exactly isolated...but it's a close community, if anyone had the virus we'd all know about it, we really would. Nobody has had it.

I'm fed up with it. I'm fast getting to the point where I want to catch the thing, keep out of the way and take my chances. This is no life.

Somebody talk some sense into me please. :(

I'd wait until they are really sure that you will be develop long-lasting antibody protection. It would be a pity to risk your life and not be any further forward.

  4. Understand fully where you are coming from the lack of social interaction is not good for anyones mental health. Waiting for some anti-body protection could be a long wait, I think we will all need to adapt to slightly different ways of living to allow us to get on with some form of life at the same time minimising the risk, I suspect you have been doing that anyway. Good luck.

Chances of catching it are said to be 1 in 1000.
It's difficult when the disease seems to be just something you read about in the media.
In the outside world, people are sensibly, giving each other space when out etc.
Unfortunately, supermarkets are a bit of a free for all!
Get out an about , but be sensible ... you don't strike me as the sort of person who will be queuing outside shops, just to have a look around.

I hadn't even been in a shop since probably Christmas until yesterday when I went into Boothe's. My crew does that for me while I sit in the van. Pre-virus he walked (5 mile round trip) for the exercise but obviously since then, going less often it was too much to carry.

It was horrible in the shop frankly, an atmosphere of fear and suspicion. If that's going to be "the new normal" ...

So distracting I forgot half of what I went in for I was so keen to get out! Jeez, I'm T total but bought a big bottle cider and forgot the cream cakes.

  7. @zedders me and the wife both had it a few weeks ago, for me I had a cough for a couple of days and then a bunged up nose. The wife had a worse cough for longer but no more serious than the common cold in our case. Perhaps we got lucky or we just don’t have any underlying problems which could make it worse. I’m glad I had it and got it out of the way but as my dad only has weeks left due to terminal cancer it did mean I lost time with him which is pretty crappy :(

  8. Although its good to get out Zedders and it's also rather stressful. People arent following the guidelines as much as I'd hoped. Some are so disrespectful to others wishes.

We had a run in whilst out for a walk with the pram. Couple basically didnt give a sh** and brushed by my wife.

Just be careful and safe where you can until this all blows over (2025) lol

Any idea where you might of caught it ie train, bus ,work shopping or absolutely no idea

  11. Tell me about it, I was keeping my parents all safe and isolated at home and then he took ill a month or so ago only to find out the worst. We ordered the home test kits which is a surprisingly efficient process and got the results in a few days. I honestly didn’t think I’d had it cos certain types of pollen set me off this time of year and chalked it up to that, imagine my surprise!

I know what you mean ...it's coming to that sort of point of thinking what the hell .
But just be bloody careful Steve .
Are there any small supermarkets around smaller towns that open till 10 at night .
We have a coop which does at the top end of the town which is practically empty at 9.45 ...you can also tell by the numbers of cars outside of the shop giving you an indication .
You could go for walks in the country side where the usual tourist charge doesn't go ,get yourself an OS orange explorer map and look at the green dot public footpaths there are loads .

You could still go with another person ...but keep your distance ,you can still converse ...let one always be the leader ..hand sanitise after touching styles or gates , most footpaths have enough room to side step the distance should someone pass .

Some scientists think that this virus might well fizzle out , boy wouldn't that be nice .

  14. Not a clue Baz, I’ve been working throughout and so has the wife plus my daughters at school as we are both key workers. Could be from shopping at Tesco’s or as my dads been to hospital a few times it could’ve followed him home, thankfully he hasn’t had it though, he has enough to deal with

Yeh, used to enjoy food shopping, now it’s horrid.

If you’ve got any big open areas near you can’t see how you’d catch it there. When I go for walks I go to areas where there’s almost zero people, if I come to a gate I open it with my for arm etc. I couldn’t stick inside that long, genuine Cabin Fever.

In the near future we’ll all look back on this and reflect :)

Yeah, we go late for this reason, there were only a few people in there but I got the evil eye from the mask wearers despite none of the staff wearing masks or gloves. You are NOT going to catch it from walking past someone unless they spit in your face! FFS!

And that is to me where it all gets ridiculous. The social 2m thing is about prolonged contact, not walking past people, it makes no sense. Behaving normally (for me) I never catch colds or flu, never, not in the last 30 years, not once. Why should I change my behaviour?

    I'm so sorry. :(
BUT I hate crowds, I avoid anything like that anyway. I'm an in, get what I want and out shopper. Don't go to the pub etc etc. Really all I want to do is go camping, on my own, walk the moors, on my own. I'm a natural antisocial distancer. But somehow this is all getting on my tits.

  20. Ive had the same. I have to go shopping every few days for essentials. Wife is vulnerable so she cant do it. The amount of tossers ive run into (almost literaly) that ignored the rules/guidelines and put me and my wife at risk is crazy. This situation is good for one thing though, its highlighting who are the good and who are the bad. Something that usually takes much longer to figure out.
