Thread from the dead. In a concerted effort to get Bill on the road before @dog finishes his Bus or I die (whichever is sooner), Bill's heart transplant has started. Part 1: Find a UK Spec Turbo Impreza with less than 80k and under a grand.
I'm hoping to only put it in once! Have decided on Black and stainless colour scheme, more difficult but a more subtle and better (IMHO) looking in the end. Tomorrow is wiring stripping day, then Weds is interior parts, calling the scrappy on Friday to collect the remains. Placing order with RJES once I have the loom to send to them. Setting my goal as the new year for up n running, then Jan, Feb, March for interior, will throw a bucket of paint at him in the Summer if I feel generous. Keeping him rough and ready as he will be working for a living.
It's getting exciting (for me) the engine is out as is everything except the final bits of loom. Bill goes up on his stilts at the weekend and the old gearbox is coming out. Also offering up the rad and thinking about cooling. If I remember I might even do one of those regular update threads.
So started stripping the Scooby motor today. It's good to know that VW's aren't the only ones who put crap bits of tin around their engines and exhausts. Judicious application of Mr A Grinder has removed the two outer skins and despite some mega rust and having to use a socket two sizes too small all the nuts came off the head studs.
Stripping the wiring loom has been time consuming. I'm glad it's RJES who are sorting this spaghetti out! This is only one bit! I like wiring but this is horrendous! The amount of insulation is amazing! Do they make these with a machine? Or does some Chinese child do it for 50c an hour? One for "How do they do that?"
That's 'cos I'm only going to put mine in ONCE! TBH I don't have a lot of time at the moment, maybe one Sat a month and a couple of weekday evenings.
