Turns out Bill was the right name, I've seen more bills on this Bus than anything I've ever owned. So, most of you will know the story of Bill's purchase on ebay whilst *******ed as a cricket. SON-IN-LAW LOOKING PLEASED WITH MY PURCHASE AS IT'S GOING TO BE HIS 'WORKS VAN' Having collected him from East Londonshire, I put him through an MOT with the pleasing result that he just needed a couple of patches. Mechanically he was sound, drove well for a lowered bus and all seemed well, however the bodywork was poor so I decided to give him to @zed to dig out the rot and replace as necessary. The following horror story is what we found............... Pictures of @zed 's work to follow.
Green, that's about as much as I know, it's going to be Green again, just this time it'll be Rustoleum green. It's going to be a working vehicle (albeit a cool one).
Hey TBR, what method was used to lower the front on this? sits absloutley perfect in my opinion, its how I want mine to sit! cheers pal!
OMG you've seriously put the Marmites up me now. Its LHD so where did it spend its life? Hope mines not as bad as that - I haven't dared look yet. And mine is 7 years older than yours
Amazingly both @zed and I have been underneath and not looked, however I will be under him this weekend (subject to rain) so I'll let you know.
Yours is SA? It'll be fine, the dry country imports are always much better. Bill is from Germany (so Willhelm I guess?) and it showed as the 'gutter' side (i.e. the right) was by far the worse for wear, TBH I should never have bought it, I could've bought a decent dry import for what I've paid out to buy Bill and get him repaired. Having said that, I KNOW exactly what the underside is like now and am no worse off. Swings and roundabouts I guess? My guess is I'll be about £9k down, including purchase, repairs, paint and new engine. So actually not too bad for a vehicle that will be earning money.
as a works van they are great. good as an advert and they can take a fairbit of stuff in the back. It's a fairbit of work but worth it
That's what we're hoping, when it's not in use it'll be a mobile ad that we can park in a good spot to generate more work. I could just buy a Transit pick up but in 5 years time it'd be worthless, hopefully this will still be in regular use and an asset to the company.
what you need is a south African doka. I know where there is a single, doka and panel going if you're interested
