I had a Citroen c15 diesel van .... My nickname was Frenchman or onion seller, how many cars get you a nickname!!
I once owned a Citroen AX 998cc it was only a year old and a pile off poo. But the French was cleaver when they designed it as they put a wine bottle holder in both doors.
I had two Renault 5GT turbos back in the day, Embarrassingly enough I have a 4x4 Kangoo Trekka at the moment.
I liked the 5 gordini or whatever it was that grace jones drove, but you can't beat a Facel Vega. Parisian 60's chic! Even with an American engine.
I used to have a Renault 5 Gordini which i wish i kept also had a 5 GT Turbo both of which were a lot of fun...My daily at the moment is a Citroen Berlingo multispace van thingy which has been really handy for running around and shifting loads of Vw bits around..very embarrasing though people think its a mobility car lol
Bugatti Royale My dad took me to France when i was a kid to the Shlumpf museum and i saw 2 of these. Amazing.
My fave; I reckon there are many better French cars, but I've had lots if these, from mint GTIs to knackered 1 litre dailies...love 'em shamelessly
When i was at school in the early 80's the English teacher had one of these. Engine in the back. We all looked at it in awe
As a bog standard production car the Citroen ZX Turbo Diesel was great - sit on the motorway at highly illegal speeds all day long, fully laden. Quite nippy around town, comfortable and a TARDIS-like load lugger too. Not the prettiest or most glamorous, fr that you need to see the Avions Voisin C25 Aerodyne, the Talbot Lago mentioned above or Facel Vega HK 500, but the ZX was so practical for so many tasks… and that must go a long way towards 'best', surely ?
I'd go for a 205 GTI. They'd fall to pieces eventually, starting with the interior, but they were fun cars. The DS is still my fave, tho'
Good call @68_early_bay that was a nice motor in its day. I always wanted one. GT turbo was proper boy racer cool.
