The French pear. The best thing about the 14 was the engine. Straight out of the 104/Visa. An excellent power pack and with a suitable radiator (hint hint Peugeot got it wrong, Citroën got it right) it was bomb proof.

  2. That engine powered virtually everything small and French in the late seventies / eighties - it kept going alright but you could hear it coming a mile away!!! Think it was one of the Douvrin family engines - there were small ones, a large one in the CX and the V6 that went in everything from an XM to a Volvo and even the Delorian!!!

This is a long forgotten French classic, but I would love to own one:

  3. Or you could go even newer with the C6. I nearly bought one but was put off by the silly road tax for the diesel (how anyone manages to get a diesel to do so badly on the EC test cycle is beyond me) and potential depreciation. I would have put up with the depreciation (this was when 2 year old cars were about £14k) but not with the £400+ tax on top.

Facel Vega. There's one near us but I haven't seen it just heard about it.

  5. Actually, it's a Peugeot 404 Coupe, designed by Pinninfarina...... To be fair the pic isn't the best and it does have more than a passing resemblance to re smaller Facelia...

This is an evil thread & needs deleting.

Ms.T has just seen it & is not happy .............. especially as I had Evilbay open looking at old French cars for sale.
I'd better get dessert ready & some nice liqueurs & finish making the coffee before I get into any more trouble.

  19. Try wearing a raincoat and smoking a Gauloise, just to set the scene...

  20. Whatever did Fuego mean anyway? Apparently it's Spanish for fire...... It certainly did catch on for the French. :)
