It’s on my list to build a layout one day but unfortunately there’s boring stuff before it

If you ever go to Nigel's and he says " do you want to see where the train goes in the tunnel" get out of there fast:eek::eek:

:)I helped build one of my old clients (passed away now), a garden railway.
He was an officiano on GWR railways.
There was nothing he didn’t know about them. We even installed a full size real working double train signal next to his ‘shed’, where he operated the engine’s from. He used to collect perfect scale models of engines and their coal carts.
The one he had in his front room, his ‘show model’, was about 4 and a half foot long. Not sure of the guage, but I think the tracks were about 5” apart.
He had 16 more of those, but in his London home.
He told me it was made by the best Working engine model maker, some Spanish guy. £40 grand, I think.
One of his train mates was Pete (Stock, Aiken and) Waterman, who also like train sets.
Another elderly client who is still with us, built a massive (normal size) train set, over 30 years, in the room above his double garage.
    It was incredibly detailed!
It even had a tiny model splitty and a family having a picnic, on one of the hill sides that he built.
Also, he had tiny tiny lights hanging off of the ceiling, and if you stood in the right place with the lights off, they were actual constellations!
    Unbelievable.
He moved, to a bungalow, and managed to scale it all down and fit it in his attic.

All boxed up in a trunk in the attic along with loads of matchbox cars and lorries .
In the trunk is The LNER olive green Flying Scotsman with lighting up firebox a Canadian diesel continental with a front light .
Loads of wagons Dewers whiskey ..saxa salt ...Peak freans ...cattle wagons ...hoppers ...westwood pickles tanker ,much more but can't remember .
Brown and cream pullman carriages . Houses , stations , warehouses , level crossings , all originally bought in kit form . Trees , bags of green dyed sawdust for landscaping .

Last time it was all out was when i set it up for my son when he was 10 ....20 years ago now .
Don't know what to do with it really ...sort of think whenever we get grand kids might come in .

But can't help thinking they might prefer plastic gordy coloured trash resembling absolutely nothing .
