Hi @magicwagon I've hooked up mine to the original ducting and its working great, I haven't been out with it so I'm not sure how it will affect the heat from the heat exchangers when driving (as there is the possibility of some losses). I have ran it half a dozen or more time for up to an hour with no issues and mine is actually a 5KW (branded as 2KW), i know people will probably say I'm mad and will die in a fireball but sure they're entitled to their opinion
I Teed mine in just behind the front spliter and with the heat exchanger lever off its working fine, I'm just wondering when the diesel heater is off and the heat exchangers are on, how much heat will be lost back through the body of the heater. I suspect not much as there will be quiet a bit of resistance. An servo selector flap is an option. I'm hoping that on the cold days I can pre-heat the bus and use the engine to keep everything warm.
How many people have opted to mount their fuel tank inside the bus? I’m leaning this way with my install as it’s getting cramped in the engine bay. The main thing holding me back is how to fill it easily. One option is mounted inside a cupboard on a pull-out runner or something similar, save spilling fuel inside a unit! Any other thoughts? I have the 5l tank with filler in the middle.
I’ve got one to install in my bus , and can’t decide where to put the fuel tank , mine came with a 15litre tank , though mine is a 8 kw , I know I know ! It’s going to be way too hot , especially as the heaters prefer to be run on full ,I can see myself getting a smaller one , but I will install it anyway for now , does anyone know how long a 2kw will last per litre ? I have mine inside a cupboard it lifts off the bracket and the fuel line is long enough to take the tank outside to fill. Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Great thanks , I guess it’s the electric supply that is the problem, ok for when you are driving, but how long will it last when parked up ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The 2kW only uses around 0.5A on minimium and 2A full chat and 10A for 2-3 minutes on start up and shut down. In a T2 even with a 2kW you don't often need more than minimum or mid output.
Thanks for the useful replies. I'm not planning on using the heat exchangers any more, the gubbins linking them to the ducting is all rusted or missing, so I'm going to fit the heater outside the van and hook it direct to the existing ducting. I did a test run and it heated the van nicely through the existing vents. I guess I should have mentioned, it's actually a T25, not a bay. Hope that doesn't get me ostracised from the forum I'm thinking of putting the diesel tank behind the front panel, and filling it by removing the front grill, as it comes off so easily. I was thinking of having the heater behind the front panel too, but I think that might be a bit too tight, so will probably end up putting it under the floor further back.
You won’t get ostracised for owning a T25 on TLB we may be a late bay dedicated forum, but we love dubs on here. We even accept them early lot and their odd old wrecks
The one I fitted on my T4 would last all night off the starter battery and still leave enough charge in my start battery to start my van.
Thanks for the replies, I suspect my 8kw is going to be way over kill ! It might end up being a garage heater ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think you can make adjustments to fan speeds and heat levels using the LCD panel so that it doesn't just blast out on full from the start. Sent from my BND-L21 using Tapatalk
Mine is inside my 76 Westy. I’ve also rigged it up where I can remove it to fill if needed, but I’ve got filling it down to where I don’t spill a drop. Plus using a top mounted fuel line, I don’t worry about leaks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
