Think I'm going to make my own having had a few days to stew it over. Can't justify the cost, and as I've said with all the other van related bits, "How difficult can it be?!". I've a decent jigsaw and router already.

Just been and raided GSF for parts, and Halfords for consumables.
Rebuild the callipers is on the cards today if work stop hassling me!

It's just like welding right, but with wood instead of metal?

  8. Apart from with wood if you cut too much of you can’t weld a bit back on

I've never had to do that. :gnome:

Always have used the correct serrated locking washers but they’ve still come loose. I’m beginning to think the threads are worn and it’s going to be new hub time.

Got the tools out including 8mm x 1.25 plug tap and die so as to sort the offside drive shaft.

Had to use a dremel to cut the bent section of the last CV bolt so as to remove it (covered the CV joint to ensure no swarf went in)
Used a center pop to remove the sheared off section of bolt in the hub gently tapping it round.

Ran the plug tap through the hub and all appears okay there and used the die to clean up the old bolts I have.

Couldn’t find any more than 2 of the serrated washers I had passed to the wife to look after yesterday and the bent spreader plate is too out of shape to be used.

Put the drive shaft/CV joint back on the hub and ordered a new kit from Buttys Bits. Also phoned them and they are going to drill the heads so that when I fit them I can lock them with wire to prevent them coming undone (excellent service and a really friendly helpful chap)

At the moment I am now able to
Move the van under its own power so I can put it somewhere better/safer to change all the bolts when the new ones arrive.

New callipers on and bled through. Test drive complete.

Can’t thank @paneuropaul enough for the afternoon’s graft. Thanks Paul!

  16. Most work you've done to your bus for 5 years I bet. Pretty sure the last but one TE you talked about your brakes being iffy

I did indeed. Looking at them I’m not convinced they’ve worked properly for ages. They’re certainly 10 times better now!

i did more yesterday than today. Paul worked like a Trojan!
