Thanks to @ckandjk for pointing me in the direction of “Buttys Bits”........ order placed (with special request for the heads to be drilled) and true to his word the man delivers.........excellent service.

Will be fitted soon but not right now as the van is having new tyres all round as they were cracked badly on the side walls.

I am really pleased with the colour match as its not a standard colour and had to be matched to a sample that was sent away.
happy no runs but a bit of Jaffa peel and a bit of a dry patch.
hats off to people who can paint well.

If the paint is thick enough you can probably address that with some wet sanding.

Pretty much no one gets a good result out of rattle cans that doesn't need some after painting work.

  10. It wasn't me Guv...not guilty

  11. Didn't use rattle cans..I sent a bit of metal I chopped out that had the paint on. They match it to that little bit and sent me a litre that I had to mix up and spray..not bad for my first attempt at spraying..

  12. Gave the old girl a quick wash so she's a bit tidier for the WCOSC stand at the Distington Vintage Rally tomorrow.

  14. Wet sanded my rear arch panel I painted..it's come up ok but you can't really tell by the pics but I would class it as a gloss sheen. It's not perfect but I now have a problem that the sliding door panel looks more jaffa peely than it does.
Also I now don't have any fingerprints left so I'm going out on the rob tonight...anyone need anything

Now I can only speak from personal experience as a person who’s offside drive shaft bolts have sheared on two occasions at inopportune moments in the last 17yrs of ownership.

The first replacement bolts that came supplied from a well known supplier stretched and snapped well before I reached the 25ft/lb torque guidelines. The next set came in ‘Topram’ CV boot kit and were actually shorter in length but did not snap before the correct torque was reached.

The fact the bolts on the same CV joint have come loose and sheared on 2 separate occasions leads me to think the off side drive shaft is minutely bent but I do not have the facilities/equipment to check it. I have replaced all 4 CV joints a couple of years ago and the remaining joints/bolts are still tight and torqued correctly.

The new cap studs from Buttys Bits are clearly splined on the heads unlike the others and I assume this indicates more of an 8.8 rating but my lack of knowledge does not lead me to know if that is better in respect of shearing capabilities (I would have to bow down to your knowledge of such things Steve).

What I can say is that the latest bolts withstood the torquing down without incident and I just travelled 200 miles without incident.

  17. I was just curious as he has drilled them and they are plated not black ....it should say on the head end of the bolt what grade they are !!

for CV bolts they need to be grade 12.9 and generally tri-square

  18. Mended my engine as it was broke over the weekend. All good now. Quality used parts from @davidoft did the trick!!
