The All New, New "What have you done to your Bay today" thread.

  1. They're modern LED ones, which look better IMO that the huge, clunky originals. Mine didn't have markers/reflectors, but I do have US-spec indicator housings, so high-level markers at the front. Apart from the xmas tree effect, they do make you more visible at night. For some reason, despite its size, a Bay seems invisible to other brain-dead road users.

The rears will just light up, the fronts will light and flash in phase with the indicators, once I've lashed up the necessary electronic jiggery-pokery.

  2. Managed to get the remains of the old outrigger's lip off the bottom of the tophat. Access with a grinder isn't very easy and working with the chassis 6" from you face isn't idea either.

I can't believe how often in the bus you'll see someone waiting to pull out of a junction, they look straight at you wait till you're almost on them , then they pull out like you're not there!

Oil change, new oil filter, new petrol filter, added pre heater tube from cylinder 2 to oil bath filter, adjusted the valves, adjusted the points...
Next to do, the dreaded timing!! Have ordered adjustable timing light which moltenimike recommend.
By the way it's a 1600tp with original Bosch svda dizzy.

Pulling into the braking zone and slamming their modern brakes on is my pet hate!!

    Actually, I have a few...

Another is when I pull onto the A road on the way to / home from work, i accelerate upto 65mph and someone often accelerates a little quicker but cuts in front of me very closely at 60mph and forces me to back off....

    Momentum is king!!

  10. Swapped the nasty reproduction 009 dizzy for a slightly less nasty (but still not ideal) real German Bosch 009.

Chinese version only manages 20 degrees advance in total and not so much a curve as a straight line. Rubbish.

Proper 009 has improved driving no end whilst I save my pennies for a better one again.

  11. Easy? Painful?

  12. Sorting all the pipes was a bit of a pain. but overall it was fairly straight forward. The servo has different thread pitch to the van so that needs a note. The thread pitch on the servo is 3/8 UNF 24 per inch (long unions). Other than that is has gone pretty easily. Just had to get it all done a bit a at time. Hope to get the brakes bled tomorrow and take it for a run.

  15. Having the flaring tool makes the job a lot easier. Not sure how you would do it if you had to get someone to make up your lines. You would have to be proper sure of your measurements. It took about 2/3 of a 25ft roll of NiCu 3/16 pipe. 4 standard DIN unions and 4 of the long 24 pitch unions. I will put together a proper how to this week.
