  1. Due to the fact I am accompanying my daughter on cub camp this weekend and I am refusing to sleep on the floor in the scout hut - last night I put the engine back in and hooked everything up. I even got the second heater cable connected at last.
    Finished just before 1am.

    Just left to do:

    Fit fan belt
Take off axle stands and fill oil in engine and check gearbox level
Connect dipstick sender to cable already run back from gauge
Try and see if it starts
Cut front carpet to allow for EMPI shift
    Pack for cub camp!

  2. May be worth checking the gearbox oil with it up on the stands , that is of course if you have it on 4 , if not jack the front up to get it level .

  3. Today I have mostly been fitting a 45 year old radio.

  4. Chopped some rot out of the inner sill and removed the knackered rear outrigger.

  5. It's up on rear only.

  6. A very tidy install , and really don`t want to pull it to bits but i seriously wouldn`t have the gas bottle in the same cupboard as the Propex , and without a drop hole ...

Just me i suppose but i`ve learnt the hard way and with no sense of smell it nearly ended in tears :(

I`m now ultra careful with gas ...

  8. Just installed the drop hole. Was waiting on the grill. One of the next jobs is to box the gas bottle in.

  11. Cheers, I would ideally like an external gas bottle.

  12. Me too - a decent LPG set-up works out about £300 , not a problem but i have more pressing issues to address .
It`s just finding the time :(

Is that a 'proper' thing because I always get failed on the MOT for having black 'n silver plates. He insists that I swop over to the white front and yellow rear before he'll issue the MOT. His justification was that only pre 1972 vehicles should display the old plates.
It'd be lovely if I could tell him he's wrong when he fails it for the wrong plates next time.

  14. Got all done and then tried to start it....

    Nothing....

Looks like my slightly sticky starter motor has finally died. I could feel heat in the battery cables do disconnected it quick. Any tips on how to get the brass bush out of the gearbox?

  15. Managed to find an old tap and die set and with a bit of fiddling thought I had got enough thread on the brass bush. Then only 3/4 of it came out. Could not get enough thread on the rest. Really jarred off now. WHY DID I NOT REPLACE THE STICKING STARTER MOTOR AND BUSH WHEN THE ENGINE WAS OUT!!!!!??????

Looks like I may have to drop the engine again.

I'm off to bed for a cry

  16. Just buy a wasp high torque starter or similar that has a self supporting bearing ( doesn't need the bush )

  17. Don't top yourself yet. Try sticking a triangular needle file into the hole and "sawing" through the remnants of the bush. Might work.

  18. Because they are really expensive.

  19. Will do, will get one tomorrow - cheers.

  20. Appreciate it's s right barsteward doing it with your neck craned up like ET, but might work. See if you can file through the bush "wall".
