  1. Opened the garage doors and gently persuaded the van to come out of hibernation and into the daylight. Poor thing looked almost shocked...guess I'll have to use it now.

Just remember, one reason VWH website so strange is that when you hit submit the order, it actually types the order into another computer system that is a lot older.

There is logic there, just remember the more precise you try to make the search the more you get: Same as Halfords website.

if you type "pink front axle camber adjuster" , this will list e.g. a PINK silicone dinner plate, a PINK tutu, a FRONT number plate screw, a FRONT half of a cargo floor, the FRONT half of Eric the half a bee, a rear AXLE stub seal, a CAMBER adjuster, CAMBER sands ice cream van... and so on.

As the item you want is actually described as a "prawn coloured forward angular wangler" you WILL NOT FIND IT.

Once you guess that "prawn" is a part of the description, the simple search for "prawn" will yield precisely what you need.

It searches by "pink OR front OR axle OR camber OR adjuster" rather than "pink AND front AND axle AND camber AND adjuster"

I strongly suspect that if you search for something related to a "\" drop table *;" you may end up taking them off the web..

  6. That hose requires a grommet where it goes through the steel sheet.

  7. It does indeed. It will also need grommets where it runs through the crossmembers. The piece of vac hose is protecting a wire from the fuel pump, incase you thought I was running a hose straight through the bulkhead without a grommet.

In all of the threads about this, this has never really been made clear! I did much the same about three weeks ago... the guy in the post office sort of had an idea of what he was doing! So for those using the search function....

    Historic Vehicle / Tax Exemption

2-3 weeks before, or shortly after the 1st April in the first qualifying year (i.e. Built in 1975, tax exempt from Jan 1st 2016) you change the Tax Class on your V5 to Historic Vehicle and send the V5 to the DVLA... save yourself the hassle of going to the Post Office it's too long winded!!

The DVLA send you the V5 back and this will change your Tax Disc renewal notice. The new system should issue you with a refund for Jan, Feb, March.

I bought the Volkswagen Birth certificate and was also quite disappointed! The M Plate decoder had suggested my van was built a year earlier than it was and the Birth Cert stated it wasn't. Obviously the Birth Certificate would be valuable for those who's vans were first registered in Jan - Mar as it is most likely their vans were manufactured in the year preceding.

Tax exemption starts in April so I don't think you'll get a refund for Jan - March.

  10. Tilly was born Feb 75 so I have really submitted late, not too bothered about any rebate if I get anything it would be a bonus. Does this mean I can now legally use black and white number plates
Instead of those horrible things with the euro symbol on the end

Yep, as soon as your bus is registered as "Historic" you can use black and silver plates.
