Then a decent case came my way in a £30 job lot off eBay. AS41 dual relief Dirty but useable now it's all measured up. Can't see any cracks and measures exactly 22mm across thrust faces. It had apparently been taken apart to rebuild as a bigger motor then sidelined I am going to rebuild around this case and finish the line bore tool and do the og case and put it away I am however going to use single port heads shroud and oil cooler
The case I'm using had no mounting studs and one had a sheared off. So I had ten mins to have a go tonight. Drilled it out. Hammered in an Allen key nod bingo
The last thing to sort before a final clean and begin to put back together was the oil pressure relief valves. Man they were tight. My dad made a tool after me mentioning it on Monday and the rattle gun sorted them out tonight Next to order bearings and gaskets Slowly slowly but I will get there
Those 4 top ones... I can't tell from the photo, but are the middle 2 shorter than the outer 2? As they should be!!
I'm sure he's all but do finished the long block and you tell him that!! The two in the middle do look longer
i wish After the building of the van engine garage time has been limited This is an as and when there is time build
This turned up today from Chris at The Little Camper Co. Just what I needed. I wanted the flaps and rod but this even has the Bowden cable for the heat riser on the air filter
Ordered all the bearings, gaskets and other bits to start rebuilding today. Did it In a wild and crazy moment cos my brother gave me a coolair voucher and I got called in to speak to the boss and got a new job so I was happy as a shig in pit. Called brother to thank him and tell him what I had spent the voucher on. He didn't get it, engines are dirty and uninteresting to him. However he is excited about me getting the bug going again because there are so many family memories from 1974 to 1988 when it was the family car
Started to pull two cranks apart to make 1 good one. This build is now over a year old already Better get a move on
The reason I needed to pull the good crank apart other than to replace the bearings. This happened 15 years ago when a puller slipped. It has run ok like that!!
Ready to put the two halves together tomorrow And this to prove to myself I got the timing gears in the right place
Put halves together tonight in torqued it all up. Seem to be getting some space back as it goes back together
I was defeated last night by man flu. Spent all day laying bricks in a wind tunnel feeling like a bag of boiled poo. Strictly came on the telly and I made my usual excuses and headed for the garage but turned left and went upstairs to bed not my usual weekend progress.
