Ok so if I take it apart, paint it and put it back together wrong, worst case is I'll have to have the wheel alignment sorted?
Gotta be painted for me, I like shiny stuff lol

 

As you may have noticed, with a wheel on it's impossible to adjust so becomes a bit wheel on/off trial and error, so advise you do mark it. It's not a job you'd get quick-fit to do. I was just adding the note of caution. You can check it's not miles out with a long straightedge across the tyre compared to the side of the van.

 

Gotcha, yeah I'll mark it as good as possible and try to get it back in the exact same position, doesn't look like it's been apart before so should be good.

Got some new gear today


Got a few more bits and bobs on the way to do the rear suspension and brakes.

Does anyone know what i have to do with the shocks? I guess i just pump them a few times to prime them?

But they come with a bit of paper that says to drill 2 holes, drain fluid then pump them ?!? :S

 

Just fit them. You're getting confussed with the safe disposal instructions.

Spent most of today scrubbing scraping and brushing the inside of the rear wheel arches.

Once they were cleaned up I sanded inside, rust treated then etch and high build primered..



I've also primered around the underside of the engine bay, the inner valance and a few other bits.

 

Looking loads better dude

Today's update, paint.
I bought a devilbiss gun, and some 2k black.
Weather was a bit cold to paint to be honest, but I used a heater to warm the parts up before spraying.









Also got the inside of 1 arch sprayed, isn't the greatest finish, but it's gonna be covered in waxoyl anyway, and it won't be seen. So it'll do,

 

Hopefully next week I can start re-assembling the rear suspension and brake parts for the near side.
How exactly do I drop the rear end down a spline?
Where I marked the spring plate and the end of the torsion bar.. Do I move the spring plate upwards 1 notch, or do I keep the lines together at the spring plate/torsion bar end and move both up together. So basically move it up a spline on the inner part of the torsion bar?

You can do either...

1 inner spline will give you approx a 60mm drop, and 1 outer spline will give you approx a 54mm drop

 

I'd move it outer spline so your marks will show what has been done for all eternity and also where to put it when you go back to stock.
If it won't come off, do as you suggest and drop it one inner, but you must do the same on both sides. There's 6mm difference in the drop between inner and outer.

 

6mm doesn't sound like much, but it's enough to give you a wonky rear end
