I find Facebook a pain in that you cant find anything amidst their promoted drivel. I am always on the verge of leaving it totally, knowing the evil they contribute to.
Its not the place I would want to see the future home of TLB.

I would also pay more than £20 for this.

I know its not cheap to keep stuff running... Running my own 6TB RAID 5 +6TB backup computer 24/7 . ISP cost about £300, energy 200W , £250. Disk drives and hardware £200 a year. DNS hamble.online and hambleonline.co.uk ( for idiot email checker scripts thant dont believe in the valid .online TLD ! ) about £50 a year.

I am sure though that a smaller virtual cloud machine somewhere should cost a lot less than that to run.
We might even get forum software where you can use the Wiki instead of/as well as sticky postings, and index your previously uploaded pictures (like The Samba) so you can find them again..

I left Facebook a few years ago and never regretted doing so. I realise the FB idea is a back up, but I'd hate to see TLB go there, I'd miss you lot :p

I would definitely pay to keep the forum here :)

As others have said, I'd happily pay to keep TLB going. The help and advice I've received would have cost me infinitely more than any annual donation.Instead of getting money in dribs and drabs @hailfrank maybe you could set up a Paypal account that we could pay into as a gift and you could leave it there until it became £1000 and then transfer it in one lump. I think you'd be surprised how many of us would bung in £20/£25 a year. Even just the regular TE crowd would hit the target.

Lots of you guys have helped me out during the years of my restoration with help and advice, and iv asked silly questions and @Zed and many have answered them for me, so to lose a great forum like this would be a loss to many of us. My £20 is ready to go.

I would rather swim naked in Piranha infested waters than go back on Falsebook, but I realise if needs must, and a big sponsor doesn’t come forward…

As an advertiser on the sidebar thingy, I have always thought they where far too cheap tbh. I reckon you could easily double the rates for them without complaints (sorry fellow advertisers!)

I notice a few YouTubers are doing this, as on here the audience/ members are asking to give something back to the people behind the scenes.

  9. Agree most forums I belong too that went to FB are now very average, they end up a for sale site and dribble comments if someone has a problem. But not all a handful still have knowlegable peeps on giving good advice. Sadly that the way it seems to be going.

I’m one of the (usually) silent members of the forum- I don’t have enough technical knowledge to contribute anything useful to the discussions but I learn so much from reading them. There’s no way I would have been able to get stuck into working on the oily bits of my van without the collective knowledge on here. I’d definitely be happy to chip in to keep it running.

I’m happy to pay. I like the forum much better than Facebook. If I forget my password here I can text Malc to reset it :p

  18. A face-book presence is useful when things go bad in Forum-world and its all there is. Its a completely different format and really doesn't lend itself to the community spirit we currently have or the way that we interact. Its not fit for the purpose. Happy to chip in on subs and £20 would seem a reasonable amount to do so. Im a member of other owners clubs with Forums etc. which whilst not quite the same are similar although the forums are much much slower.

Likely if we do go to face-book totally it will be the death knell of everything TLB!

Also - try searching for anything on FB... I cant find posts i read a minute ago on there as they just disappear. its a mystery to me! also dependant on what device your on you simply cant scroll through the amount of traffic we have here even on a quiet day.

I do get the point that the usual types who just come on to try to flog their bus or parts wont pay anything and we will subsidise that well either we suck it up or if non subscribers want to sell on here they either pay up the (members???) fee or pay a charge to advertise.

  19. @Dicky knows I rarely agree with him but even I would chip in a tenner or so to keep the forum running. If it moved over to Facebook we would lose so much of the history that makes this forum such a valuable resource.

One more for the anti-and-non-FB brigade, and for paying a sub even if it's not needed as the alternative .... Offered to donate several years back ("we're good thanks")
Life's too short to rake over our "TLB benefits" of the last nine years, so this would be a kind of retrospective thing in my mind.
Hoping that having a handful of "virtual patients", and getting proactive on the TLB-Courier front has put a little something back in.
Suffice to say the fact that we don't have a Bay any more doesn't seem to make any odds.
Maybe I'll eventually get round to one last "garage clear out" though.
