That’s the thing. If you’re happy to pay, you have to ignore the fact that many won’t.

Agreed, it's inevitable, if I only used a site sporadically and rarely posted I wouldn't pay either. Lets be honest, you could almost make the £1,000 by charging £25 for Techenders, most people expect to pay and are surprised it's free. I can say that now I've given it up. :D

As I said I'm happy to pay, I've sold items on here and told to buyers to make a charity donation, I been given items on here for free and also made charity donations , I like to pay my way

Yep. Who gives a rip. There will be lots of people who dip in and out but for many of us these vehicles and their continued operation are a passion. As Andrew and Adrian said, it's potentially a small price to pay to keep the resource live.

I use facebook, I have no problem with it... but the layout of the forum is much more user friendly; plus if I have to log onto FB everytime I want a TLB fix I'm just going to end up looking at peoples dogs, record collections, what they had for breakfast, and where they happen to be on holiday whilst I'm getting rained on...... I need this place to keep me away from all that! ;)
I'd happily contribute to keep TLB alive here.

I know that over the years the advice I’ve got from this forum has saved me a lot more than 20 quid! I would be happy to chip in too.

And you are far from alone. I "bought" a bus interior for a £200 charity donation. I've also given away and received a lot of free or almost free parts over the years and adjusted no end of carbs and timing for the fun of it. It's what a hobby should be, though it is morphing into an expensive one. It was easier to give stuff away when it was basically worthless 20+ years ago. lol
Sound suspiciously like TLB to me.

and a lot of other comments about keeping away from FB that I agree with. I pay £20-£40 a year to be in some car clubs that are much less interesting than this group. The Woodie Car Club used to be a proper thing with a magazine but it went to FB and I gave up. More than happy to set up a DD for £20, and pay something to go to TE.

I'm a member of one site that I help fund with monthly payments via Patreon on a voluntary basis. Contributors get a "badge" on their profile to show they contribute.

Another site I'm a member of charge a fee for selling items in the classifieds forums - a one-off fee per item, or a yearly subscription. Otherwise the site is free but also accepts donations.

Site sponsorship isn't the only funding option :)

Anyway, as much as I dislike Farcebook, I've signed up to the group

  16. I’d chip in for sure. Has to be worth the price of a round a year.
I’m not entirely sure I know who the current main sponsor is, perhaps a beefed up presence on the forum - assuming templates allow - would make it more appealing to replacements?
£1,000 will be buttons to an annual marketing budget for one of the dozen or so companies which want their brand in front of us lot.

I'll pay a 20 quid annual sub, no-brainer. I get at least 21 quid's worth of knowledge from the forum each year. Win win :)
