Ok today's update,
More bodywork on the inside, not perfect but it's good enough for me, will be covered in panels so won't be seen.

 

Then I got the other door out to do some sanding..





And I also got some wheel dollies through, so I won't have to take the bus out of the garage in the winter to turn it round.

 

Ok so today, I did some final sanding inside,
Then went for the etch primer.
First time using a gun really, did a bit on my dad's project ages ago but nothing major,
Turned out pretty good I think. There's a few runs and a few spots that need tidying up.

 

Inspiring stuff mate - bravo on the bumper overriders.

 

I'm doing a new front inner valance and deformation bulge just now - I'd not thought about the captive nuts being different for the Braz bumpers - cheers for the reminder. Thankfully I have the old bulge (my van is a made in Brazil late bay) still in the scrap pile that I can take a rubbing off of. Lovin' this thread - your work is such a confidence-booster

 

Today's update,
There was some imperfections in the etch primer that I flatted back, some weird cracks and 2 runs. Then I sprayed some high build primer on..

 

I love the primer stage ...it sort of all starts to come together

great work and attention to detail on the inside

 

Cheers mate, yeah it makes everything look so much better all one colour. I think I'll have a go at painting the inside myself too, should be fun

Nah that was me messing up on an early driving lesson for this forum software! Crossed forums.

 

Always a big milestone getting them into primer!! Goes from looking like a project to a completed van

 

Yeah chuffed to bits with it so far, I'll probably primer the outside too now.
Next up, the underside parts are coming off to be refurbished, then get some paint underneath.

Some work from last Saturday..
Got the bus spun into a decent position to get access to all 4 corners,
Then got it up on the axle stands.


This will be its new home for a while till the bottom is sorted.
Stripped off the rear suspension

Has anyone got any advice for separating the spring plate, hub carrier and swing arm?
Do I need to mark the positioning on the spring plate etc so that it all goes back in the same position? Or is it just an unbolt, paint, bolt up job?

You need to mark it, as the rear end toe in/out is adjusted by the slotted holes in the spring plate

 

Thought as much, good job I didn't take it apart straight away, guess I'm learning.

Is there a best way to mark it?

 

If you weren't going to paint it you'd have a "tide mark" to line it up with.
If you have tracking guages you don't need to worry so much, and if it's already been apart you might be re-setting it wrong. Just saying.
The camber is also set with the same adjustment. The weight of the hub carrier will make it want to sag at the back introducing more camber.
