Your ideas on warnings etc

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by hailfrank, Feb 11, 2013.

  1. Haven't been on here much lately but all seems good from out here.
I try and avoid swearing but there are words that some consider swearing and others just colourful, like 'my steering's knackered' etc. That's just a judgement call and up to Horts and the mods. I think complex rules and point systems are unnecessary. If things get out of order or there is a grievance we can go to PMs and it will be sorted.

  2. I understand TLB is "family oriented", but even the extremely uptight American Picture Association will allow words like B1tch, *****, Sh1t and even a rare single F*ck in a film that is rated for kids 13 and up. And frankly, how many 12yr olds are driving late bays anyway?
Furthermore, if I'm going to get spanked for saying a few doo-doo words, then we might as well penalize people who don't know the difference between YOUR and YOU'RE, TO/TOO, FOR/FOUR, etc,...
If we must have a baby sitter, why not be productive and throw in a d@mn tutor while you're at it.

  3. Dammit! I was going to put hear hear instead of here here, but it turns out hear hear is actually correct! :D

  4. What's this stuff!!!! Your and you're,
To and too, for and four!!!! I always thought these people just could not spell!!!!

  9. I too swear, sometimes more than I should but when I look back at certains situations I wish I'd been a bit more dignified with my language. Sometimes swearing does seem appropriate and it can be funny - I'm never offended by Billy Connelly. My dad was irish and I didn't realise until I was in senior school that the eff word he used in every sentence was actually swearing because he just said it so naturally and easily - a bit of irish punctuation.

However one of the reasons I joined this site was I appreciated the standards applied to it. Using asterisks etc is enough to simulate what swear words I might have used without causing real offence to those who find the actual words distasteful. That's not too much of an ask is it?
I've looked at other sites and some of the stuff that's talked about and the way it's done is basically like listening to a group of fourteen year olds trying to act hard and grown up. At the risk of sounding prudish at some gatherings there are vans (sorry but usually the ratty ones) which have very risque stickers on them. Even though I consider myself a strong and independent female, some of them (just in my opinion) are too sexual or derogatory and I'm not comfortable reading them. If this site's discussions sank to that level then I wouldn't want to be member.

  12. Back in the day, I was a regular on Kamperchat...there were some great threads. precipitating all manner of responses: hilarious, informative, helpful, serious, facetious, mis-informed, dim-witted, racists. sexist. ageist, offensive...you name it!...I wouldn't bother trying to moderate posts (aside from blatant trolling/self promotion) as less desirable elements tend to dig their own graves with their small-minded agendas and predictable dogrel...speaking as an old black, misogynistic, crypto-fascist, muslim, gay-hating, paeodophile, I should know!

NB/ I also sell drugs to Jewish children....and carry out unecessary medical experiments on domestic pets, when I'm not advocating Jihad

Maybe minus trophy points or something like that. I think it would have to be serious and really hurt someone to get a ban.

Has anyone noticed that this place runs much better without rules that wouldn't look out of place in a play-school?

i had noticed that with the lack of moderation compared to the old days it does seem to run ok yes, to me half the problems used to arrise from being told too much what not to do, now left alone we seem to have found a resonable level - ironically most of the stuff some of us got "warning" tags for on the old forum seem to be allowed - or at least tolerated now.

All forums go through periods of dictatorship-like moderation. This place was lucky as it appears they realised before the place became a ghost forum.
