didn't we on the last version allow you to remove the swear filter in your personal settings?
it WILL stay in place as this was always the ethos of the forum. it would be good if we could find a solution for those potty mouthed of you who feel the urge to swear at each other ;) (notice the smiley i'm being sarky lol)

its a big problem, some people write in a way that you can tell what they're saying, some use smileys to help, others can't. it's such a fine line which is why opinion and common sense are such a tricky thing to apply to rules!

  3. Agreed - best get some more smilies available :p

Has anything been learnt or discussed from this thread or has it just turned into another "can we have more smiles" thread? as much as i like a laugh if i and others who are a bit "fed up" with this place are going to return to post more frequently/at all then the ground rules need to be clear and consise and the same for all members and admin - if they are indeed as quoted by HorTs in another thread "just regular members". I'm not playing the "sour grapes" card here as a person who was previously on a warning but as a person who needs a bit of clarity, it may also be wise to have a very obvious sticky post explaining the outlines and punishments at the top of the general section rather than in the initial sign up application as nobody reads that...... i hope you are all well catch you soon, rick.

Can we have more smilies please?:p

  13. I dont like it when posts disappear in a thread, then people are talking about the posts that disappear and you dont know what they are talking about.

On other forums I go on there are "mod edit" for questionable content, maybe we could have that and/or if the post is a bit near the knuckle but not needing an edit directly a mod could add a tag with a specific smilie in the post. kind of like a warning for things like swearing, offensiveness, trolling etc that way its all done out in the open and there would be less cloak and dagger about whats going on behind the scenes.

I know 3 people on warnings personally.
One was because he used a swear word. A few weeks later everyone is swearing away to their hearts content.

Anyway, warnings are like ASBO's and worn with pride.

  15. I can’t take it too seriously. It is what it is and I’m over getting too excited on differences of opinion or that a mod is felt to be perhaps a wee bit controlling. But do believe when people try to make ammends then they should be allowed to do so. It’s all school playground stuff. Most of it matters not a jot. Had my run-ins over the years on boards (that some of you may recall) with various people and have also done a bit of fence mending too.

If this is a part of your life and a means of communication with people on a shared interest or even as some say "like-minded" people that’s fine but I think if you live your life on here you’ve got issues and perhaps are more feeble minded than like minded. This is a great place to meet folk and the notion of the extended on-line community that exists in the real world with people meeting up and having a jolly is fantastic but eventually will outgrow a forum like this when true friendships (or even strong acquaintances) are forged.

As for smilies then I used to think that people just used these to be nasty and then put a smilie at the end but now I know that was just cynicism on my part!

    Rubbish! :).
    Not really. ;)
I think the forum is best left to police itself to a larger degree than it is. e.g. Illdoit went off on one the other day and got banned. As a majority we might think he's a bit of a tit, but it takes all sorts. He got banned immediately so I'm guessing there was no dialogue with him to check his beef. I'm not keen on banning - he'd have got his come'uppence via the contributors to the board - he always did previously - I think he was top of the smited users?

  17. Your rubbish!

  18. Is another mans treasure! ;)

I may help if we forget how things have happened before and concentrate on how you want it to happen now.

I know a lot of members would like to see the swearing filter gone nut we are a family site and need to keep family friendly. Swearing in the majority will be covered by the filter but there are ways to get round it.

Maybe if I suggest an example setup without much thought and it can be ammended. At least we'll have something to start from.

1 point for swearing per post, expiry 1 week (means no one will be unduly punished for a slip or isolated outburst)
3 points for percieved trolling/baiting, expiry 2 weeks
10 points for abusing and member per post, expiry 1 month
20 points for threatening member per post, expiry 2 month

    9 active points = 1 week ban
    15 active points = 1 month ban
    20 active points = 2 month ban

What are your thought on this?

  20. Sounds like a crap load of work for the mods. I think it's sad that it's necessary tho.
