Set reasonable rules and reasonable people with adhere to them. I have no concerns about admin defining the rules as long as the members know what they are and they are applied to anyone that breaks them.

Problems may arise from familiarity between members and 'in' jokes that some see as offensive and the participants don't. I think these may need a bit of common sense applied to them, which sort of contradicts my first statement.....

i think swearing is fine if not abusive, if i called you *****ing soft ***** in a thread that was not abusive to the person it was said to why should i get done? if i called a random person it then i should, it's called context, if warnings are issued the person getting it should be given chance to explain why they did something out of character if that got them the warning, also i think if a warning is issued and agreed by the person getting it then you should notify the members why the person got it - example have a sin bin area, so say for example, poptop2 is on a warning for having a small prick and sticking it in lowies mouth, this would stop people asking "what you on a warning for?" that really got on my tits when people asked me. Also don't forget the golden rule.... if you say hey poptop you're a *****, put a smiley at the end and people think it's ok ;) or type

Too many rules and people will go elsewhere.
So long as you don't treat members like kids, and make the rules clear, it'll be fine.

  4. I may be wrong, and welcome to be corrected, but I'm sure they are not 'illegal' just morally wrong.

Most of them are illegal. Do anything deemed racist or homophobic and you'll get your collar felt.

  6. morally yes, but i was working on the premise that they would have to expressed here on the forum and therefore, at or about an individually, which would make it a hate crime and includes verbal abuse.
obviously, someone could just express their intolerance and not at any one individual or group but i think this should also be tackled.

  7. Fair enough. I did just have a google. Its not actually those actions it 'Discrimination' that is illegal, which covers many aspects. Everyday is a learning day. :D

I'm with baysearcher on this one.

Anyone of us on this forum need a drivers licence to drive our vans. This automatically rules out people under age. I don't think swearing should be moderated unless it gets above what we would deem acceptable in society.
The other things should warrant an immediate ban of at least a week with a warning that a permanent ban will be issued if the same happens again.

The only thing with swearing is where the line is. To me it's different to others. I rarely use the c bomb but on biz for example it is common place. I do not want Tlb to follow.

I think if someone was rude and you said "You bloody bugger" that would be ok. :)

  11. One thing that would be important is for the mods to get treated the same as the members, so when they do something wrong they get penalised the same way - for instance, when they make quite a clear statement they would sooner no one else comes to the camp and it is just them and their mates.

Swearing is always a difficult one, even with it being more accepted these days then any other, there are still a lot of adults that don't approve of many swear words and find some/all offensive.

  12. Stop acting like a bunch of *****.

  14. I am afraid you have got the wrong end of the stick regarding " they would sooner no one else comes to the camp and it is just them and their mates."

This has been taken out of context again.

As regard to Modding the mods, I see your point of view, and this does go on. Several times we have overruled a mods actions, mine included.

i agree that common sense should come in to it, and where possible it will. all we're trying to establish here is an agreed list of what is not deemed acceptable by our members. we then want to establish suitable actions for said indiscretion so everyone on here knows where they stand. the context of the action will obviously decide the severity of the punishment. and i'm afraid like in real life not everyone is going to be satisfied!

anyone of any age can join this forum, there are people on here with kids who help them with their vans and attend shows and camps who also look at this forum

    don't get it?

Although any age can join the forum I don't think our rules should pander to children.
I for one wouldn't want to be a member of a forum children frequented any more than occasionally, and even then as far as I'm concerned it should be supervised.
It's up to the parent to make sure they're happy for their kids to read things, not up to the rest of the membership to curb their postings.

That was the point I made before when I got my warning. I use a bad word in a positive way but still got stamped on by some mod.

I think the fillter is a good thing as not everyone likes to us or see swear words. If someone gets around it I'm sure it soon get picked up.

  20. The internet is the same as texting - its very difficult to always take things in the way that they are said/meant - guess peoples facial expressions say a lot when you talk to them in real life! Remember it was used as a for instance - so that consistency with whatever rules become of the forum are carried out equally, thats all. Glad to hear it does already happen! Will keep quiet now and keep our opinions to ourselves! Don't want to say no more wrong!
