Take a walk down any busy high street and you cannot pass more than ten people without hearing someone use an expletive , its now part of the way that certainly the younger people talk nowadays

I might assume (we should not assume it makes an ass of u and me ) that the large majority of people that have "signed up" for this forum are at least over 40.

i believe here is an age difference that people find bad language acceptable and one that it is found unacceptable.

This is a forum that you sign up join and and once you have signed up you do have a choice to either return or not, its your choice alone

i personally would not write on a entry anything that that i deem as swearing or offensive but i do not think that others should not if that is the way they know how to express themselves. Nor would seeing such language stop me from visiting the forum , as i have said - its my choice to return .

D o a google search you will see that Section 5 of the public order act is being changed in the near future so that it is not an offence to use insulting language. Is that a sign that even the law makers agree that the language used today is different to that used not so many years ago

Ive not been a member for long but i have read recent posts that indicate this forum is at risk of folding, that would be a shame because i have learnt so much on here from a group of dedicated fans of the vehicle we own ,and wish to spread their invaluable knowledge to newcomer like me. I dont care in what format they passed on the knowledge to me but i have learnt so that why i return - as i have said its my choice to not return if i want

i am in the bmw motorbike forum and that has such tight restrictions that you cannot even post words to the effect "im off to the loo back in a minute "because someone finds it offensive - the forum is hardly ever used and sadly is now less than useless.

The honda goldwing owners club forum has also sadly now been closed for the same reason. Is that really what we want to happen here

having rambled on ie forgot my point really, perhaps it just to be tolerant of all posts / posters / members, the person typing is expressing his/her point the way they know best .

I think it will be a lot less work TBH, the bans will be automatic. The warnings are a few clicks and enter a reason. The warnee will recieved an automated message with the reason and a link to the post in question.

A fair point, hopefully this will be covered by the filter which will remove the vast majority of the swearing. It will only be people who try to get around the filter who get a warning.

We do have the trouble that Tapatalk is a third party and doesn't use our filters, so we ask that users be mindful of this when posting through Tapatalk.

  4. Ahh,,ok. I was just afraid it would be so mutch work that the mods got tired of running the site,,,= close the forum down.

  6. so, am trying to get this straight in my head (not the best place to be), if i use my own asterisk to denote a potty mouthed outburst, will i get points? If i do slip up and type the whole word which the filter picks up, will i get points?
also, when do we start discussing the reward bits ;)

p.s. i still like the filter, i like to try and work out what the missing letters are - like a crossword for potty mouths! :D

come and have a go if you thing yer hard enough you big*** and youll get a slap

for example would be 34 points I guess. Doesnt seem unreasonable as long as we know what the naughty words are and that a tongue in cheek banter session wont be misconstrued as trolling!

If it is strarred out no one would get a warning.

  9. hm, still working those out!

what is trolling? i've heard the term before but i just think of a warty nosed troll under a bridge... i'm guessing it's not that?

  10. I quite like the no swearing thing on here, yes I am nearly 50 and like to think my vocabulary is wide enough not to use it when I type, nor in front of my 3 year old boy ... just because its acceptable on the streets doesn't mean we have to stoop to that ... my tuppence worth :) There's always a thesaurus if you are having trouble expressing yourself

I'd say that would be 33 as the swearing has been ***** by the filter or user.

But I think you're right not completely unreasonable.

Another example, please excuse the language:

Would result in 13 points thus a weeks ban.

No one needs to say anything like that and I think a weeks ban is reasonable.

I don't think these rules would result in any current member being banned (bar some top class trolling).

  12. It would be lovely to be able to trust people to be polite and play nicely, but that is (sadly) not always the case. It's bad enough walking down the street sometimes and having to rush Freya past people using bad language (generally as we walk to school past the secondary school kids who think it is 'cool' to swear), that I don't need to see it online as well - she likes looking at the pictures of the vans and what people have done and then hints as what we should do to Daisy-Mae and I don't want to stop her interest (although if she decides not to like VW's when she grows up she will have more cash in her pocket!).

So, where was I heading with this ... yes, the above idea seems a sensible one.

Speak to others as you would expect them to speak to you, you can't go far wrong with that!!

this is actually used a fair bit, we had a censored smiley, and i'd quite often state in a post that i'd moderated that i'd done it and why, quite often paired with a pm to the poster if necessary
