Wilby's long term resto.....8 years counting!

  1. Impressive as always
May i ask what insulation you have used?

  2. Just read all this resto and Loving the Attention to detail and the finish achieved. That's going to be a show winner for sure. If you choose to show it that is!!

  3. Thanks mate, I purchased a roll of insulation from http://www.campervanconversion.co.uk/shop/c/insulation/p/campervan-insulation.

Its lightweight and very easy to work with being only 5mm thick. The roll comes in a width of 1.25 meters and is supplied in varying lengths. I'm happy I went for this rather than using a fibrous/thicker type of insulation. Its also worth noting that it has a class 1 fire rating and does not absorb moisture.

  4. Thanks for the comments on the bus. I'm not sure what to do about the sound system yet. I do have an early 80's top of the range Pioneer system a mate gave me which I want to try. It even has an electronic crossover unit and separate amps for the bass mid & treble. Probably not up to today's standards, but is kind of cool...going to try & wire in an aux cable to the cassette head unit & see if it works. The other option is to fit a set of Linn local speakers under the rock n roll bed. I have a set in the garage under my workbench (about the same space as under the r'n'r bed) which sound really nice.

  5. Thanks Birdy, that means a lot when you look at the standard of other resto's on here. Mine is by no means the biggest project, I admire others that take on buses needing much more work than mine did. I just try & do the best job I can on it without cutting corners. I do need to get a move on now though because I want to be camping in it this summer.

  6. Thanks for your comments....I do not plan on building a show bus, just want to do the best job I can. I once restored a Rover P5b coupe' which I drove and showed. Had it for 17 years & in the end would only use in dry weather! I don't want our bus ending up like that, I want to enjoy camping in it.

  7. I'm now about 90% of the way through fitting the headlining. It's a special supplied by Diddymen, which fitted really well. I had the rear part left longer so that I could finish off around the opening in the roof.
I bought some Evostick impact adhesive to glue down the headlining around the windscreen opening. Reading the small print I found it is not suitable for use on cellulose paint , so I'll have to find a suitable glue.

Still got to glue the rear corners which I cut a bit too short on one side. I should be able to hide this with the side panels I am going to make.

Next job is to trial fit the dash top prior to paint & then fit the front screen.

Fitted my new front screen today, but I'm not 100% happy with the seal along the top, just inside the corners. May remove it and fit a larger seal, as the supplier Gavaddy VCP recommended.
Covered the area under the screen rubber with rust proofing wax

This area does not seem tight against the bodywork
    [IMG]

Also knocked up some stainless steel backing plates for securing the pop top hinges, its easier than using individual nuts and spreads the load.

  17. Thanks Diddy. I already have long plastic tubes on the end of the winding mechanisms & never thought to see if these small rubber tubes fit on the end. I'll try to fit one when I next get a chance to get in the garage!

  18. A bit more progress over the last two weekends. The canvas is fitted into the roof cap and the roof is now on. I have prepped and painted the hoops and lifting arms and am in the process of riveting the hook & loop straps into the canvas.

  20. What a great Van you're going to have. Now you'll just have the keep the grand children working after age 65 to pay for it. LOL
