No, you said the party votes in a PM, they don't. They vote for a party leader, who only becomes PM if the party is in government at the time. Think Keir Starmer replacing Corbyn, basically the same principle of leadership contest, but resulting in him becoming party leader of the opposition.
They can change leader/pm any time they see fit, including the day after a GE. What can't you understand about that?
Ah, so you agree with the above. You only think you're voting for a PM. I any case, the reduction of our GE to a leadership popularity contest is a big part of the mess we're in. I do wish peeps would step back a bit and consider past party performance and policy, these leopards might change their spots, but they're still the same leopards.
Works both ways this argument about not voting in a PM but a party. if Labour lost the election because Corbin was unelectable as PM and the tories won because of the popularity of Boris then how does the current PM have a mandate at all. How many people elected this leader… blah blah … certainly less than voted to make Corbin leader of the Labour Party that’s for sure!

Not necessarily. Imagine a situation where every party has a leader you don't like (ie at practically every election!) then, if you still wish to exercise your democratic rights, you have to choose the party best suited to your ideals irrespective of the leader at that time.
Or you exercise your democratic right to not vote at all? I'd wager that most people in this country have no idea who their constituency MP is, and if you live in a safe seat you'll never see them anyway. When it comes to a general election most people wouldn't recognise who is standing for their constituency either, and again if you live in a safe constituency you won't see anyone out campaigning either. How many people do you think actually read the manifestos of each party? I'd say only a tiny percentage of the voting age population do. So you get to election day and those same people go to the polling station and only recognise the political parties on the ballot paper and relate them directly to the leaders of those parties, and they'll vote on that basis, on the preference of who they'd prefer to be PM.
My MP is Lilian Greenwood. I’ve met her several times including on my doorstep when campaigning and shoulder to shoulder on the picket line. I’m fortunate in that most of the time we’re on the same page! I did vote for her and feel represented! Oh yes, and of course she’s from Bolton. What’s not to like!
My MP is Rob Butler, Tory safe seat so not seen him locally in any context. I have written to him twice in a year regarding government energy policy and the expansion of Luton Airport. I received two automated responses that my points were being taken up by the respective government Ministers. I have yet to receive a response about Luton Airport but I did get a whaffling response about energy policy from the office of the then Business and Energy Minister Kwasi Kwarteng.......
