  1. Ah patience and care, knew I was missing something .. where do I get them from..Coolair do a good discount usually...

Bearings..no.. tonights job. . After a bit of considering..I'm going to do a bit of brass rubbing on the new #3 as it's fitted and stuck behind cam gears.. compare that to the old #3 if I've still got it.. then just in case check that one aginst the case... thanks for that..Would have been a bit of a mare.. good job you spotted yours I'd have never thought to check.

  2. After my lunchtime reading...

  6. That's the beauty of these forums. I'd never done this before and found I couldn't get 1 source which had all info. So reading and asking top gents on here got me to the same thinking as mork, I've DVD plus wilsons book, plus put stuff on here and ask the experts! More knowledge than you need is better than not enough

    Con rod side clearance 0.25mm at 1,2 and 4, 0.28mm at 3

    Cam thrust bearing clearance 0.09mm

    Cleaned up distributor

Nice to know I've not lost the spring and shim to go with the drive..that's soaking in diesel/parafin with the oil pump getting ready to finish the short motor....once I've checked the end play, after reading the "how to" a couple more times sure it's not as complicated as it sounds...

There seems to be 9 of the black push rod size rings.. is one of them for the distributor shaft .. doesn't look as fat but no others close in there or do Elrington not include them?

Think it might be O in here..

The distributor sealing ring should be p/n 111 905 261, it has a ‘D’ cross section, rather than an ‘O’. However, an O-ring will work and that’s possibly what you have.

  14. Ta...Not so bad ... But I haven't finished yet!

There's plenty of stuff and people on here to help... I've never done it before.. Takes a bit of time to look up each stage as you go along ..Not so cheap though when you find stuff needs replacing.. Those cams and followers are a lot for what you get....

All thing Type-4 are pricey compared to T1. :( Bearings, gasket set, piston rings... it does add up.

I think our build cost around £2k for everything including sourcing the missing tinware, heads, B & P's, crank regrind etc etc not inc the gearbox though
