when putting my type 4 back in I struggled to move my trolley jack across our rough tarmac driveway and did my back in

What's going on with the step in the ex guides ? Not seen them like that And on my phone both in and ex seats look same angle ?
Yeah exhaust guides definitely open up a little past where they pass the casting.. Not an illusion.. Was like that on the ones I pulled too. And yes just seat face cut.. Other two sloping faces are still dull but there.. Just.. Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk
Ah mine were just like the inlets ...old and the new ones ... i am right in thinking the inlets are 30 degrees and the ex 45 degrees tho ?

No, both should be 30°, but if a proper job has been done, then it should have a 3 angle job on it... 30°, 45° & 60°
.....when I recut mine if was defo 30 degrees for the inlet and 45 for the exhaust ....I remember as I cut them 3 angled as well ...
Another problem with the stones and even the carbide cutter is that the shop you use may not be setup to cut the angles required. On a Type 4 head, VW specified 15/30/75 for the intake valve seat and 15/45/75 for the exhaust valve. You might end up with a 20/45/60 grind because those stones are more readily available for their tooling. The seat has to be cut to the prescribed angles and seat width and this process takes time: something the low budget shops cannot do and still charge you $200. Taken from ratwell
