  1. @scrooge95 I can whip them apart and see what jets and what not are in them.

    Maybe Jonno knows?

  3. I'm sure there would be a way to make a csp bell crank linkage work.
But I reckon trying to make something new work, would be more hassle than sorting my current set up so it works well again.
Current cb linkage set up has been hassle free since 2004 (until recently).

I don't think Jonno knows, he just said they ran great with his 1776!
TBH I'm still not going to fit them in the field, but I'm happy to see what is inside and whether it's what I need... so feel free to whip 'em apart, but don't do it specially - we can all have a look next weekend over a beer, whilst I sob over not having a CSP Bell Crank !

  5. It might be worn, Paul, mine was :(

I'm sure you are correct. I only ever had one hex linkage, it was a terrible one (probably EMPI) and I vowed never again. All of them are a bit trial and error to balance unless you make even more modifications to the levers... like this, but once done these are a joy. Extra ajusting screw for running balance instead of pratting about with the arm lengths that change when you tighten the pesky lock nuts. No use to you as I assume you pay someone to do all that?
I have to admit it was a great deal of trouble (and some ingenuity) to fit this type of linkage engine hatch side of the carbs on a type-4 engine. It would have been easier if I'd bought longer manifolds.

Luckily for us Dellorto designed them so that the jets are accessible without dismantling them.

  8. Not with the CB filter bases on, if memory serves me, tho I could be wrong on that :(

Would be slightly different in a Bay though with the cardboard air outlets?

  10. Possibly, yes :)

But it should run under the tubes on an OEM fan.

Paul's advice is sound :) Look around at TE.

PS Bugs have heaters tubes too, just that fella doesn't.

Good point, I do have to take the bases off to get at the idles, but long idle airs would fix that I think? I just take them off because the wotnots are in the way anyway and it's the same nuts.
Did you bend the rods like that?
I managed with the outlets and without bending the rods... if you can pick them out on this cruddy photo.

Oops, I took the outlets off later, try this one...

  13. CSP do different rod sets, if you ask.

Wotnots? Do you mean these doo dad's?

Yes, it was an effort but it did make it very easy to adjust them. I don't have a top hatch so I had to get them round that side - the linkage is not made that at all - I had to mount the centre part on home made brackets too! It was just one more job in the resto at the time so I started and carried on, like you do.

Then made more longer cranked ones because those weren't right! You really have to want to do this stuff don't you? I've lost that "keep going" mentality now.

Those are indeed the exact knickknacks I meant .
I think I could have got over quite a few of my problems with cranked rods but I'm stubborn.

    Doh!
Top centre - you can't miss them they come out as stacks - main, elusion, main air and idle, idle air. Two of eack per carb

  19. ^this. All jetting on a Dell is accesible from the top: just a bit of unscrewing necessary. You can then read all relevant numbers off the jets.

At some point you will have to measure the venturi size (by squinting), but you can even take them out to measure.

I had no trouble fitting a centremount on a type 1 for a pair of Dells. Everything works in the right direction and pushes (or pulls?) correctly. Nothing fouls, although the RH (?) rod gets close to one of the fanshroud air outlets.

I did try the CB linkage to start with, and it’s…fine. Just a bit overcomplicated imho.

Fitting them halfway properly isn’t a job I’d do in a field. It’s significant effort. Not plug and play. Actually better done with the engine out.
