  5. Yes!! I know but I’m forbidden and not allowed to use sae 30 otherwise I will be beaten to death with my own sun visors,
I only ever used 30 weight in the my type 1 engine’s
But it’s taboo now all the scientists on here say so… but no particular oil grade has ever been proven to make an air Cooley last any longer :D

  6. If one side is bleeding down, try parking it on a slope ;)

    You're welcome;):D

This is probably why my caliper lost its thread.. I think I broke off the threads in the casting as the rust gripped them.. 20230404_093430.jpg

And yes I did open the bidding with a proper open ended five faced brake union spanner.

Today (first time after replacing the remote oil filter housing) I drove the van. Did a 60 mile round trip and reached the dizzying speed of 65mph in one place. Treated it to some E5 fuel too. Letting it cool down before I give the engine a checking over.

Got the old ball joint out.. bits were catching on the ebay kit.. the camber nut was jamming at one stage .. 20230404_165552.jpg

Managed to stack it all up for reinsertion.. still needed a three foot extension tube to wind it home.
I used a jack to separate the suspension arms to stop the lower arm interfering with the lower sleeve.

And the new one is in.. and triple checked the notches line up although the slot in the joint is quite wide .. I looked under the boot to see .

You do realise that an umbrella is almost a better fit than some replacement canvas.

What's that clamp/press you're using to put the new one in, Mike?

I’ve measured the run around the top and there is only about A quarter of an inch difference, hopeful but who knows. It is one of the “ superior “ quality ones and looks good.

Totally agree - it does look good - the green goes well with the body colour... but in the long run, I think you'll be better off replacing the canvas. Wind resistance might be an issue at speed too....

That's one of the eBay kits a "Master Ball Joint Splitter Kit" .. about £72.. loads of metal pieces each optimised for not quite a Bay ball joint.. I had to use a an additional front wheel bearing shell as a pusher to get the ball joint out as the smallest tubes in the kit are all slightly too large in diameter.

And used one of the laser cut plates from The Little Camper company to help pressing the old joint out - its 10mm thick and has two lugs that go into the slots in the ball joint flange. Managed to squish it a bit.. you can see it under the old ball joint in my pictures.
