  1. Ok thanks. I’ll ditch the nozzle idea then and look at the electric conversion

I have a electric pump, a pair of three jet nozzles and an intermittent wash wipe relay. Thoroughly 1990s .. @snotty I think that howto go lost in the last forum hack ..
Install any electric pump with the motor pointing up and any drain holes pointing down, or when the pump lip seals leak it fills up the motor .. and check it all primes properly when theres no washer fluid in it or you may become annoyed when a quick top up at a service station ends up with you sucking on pipes to get the pump to prime again that have bittering agent in the screen wash...

It may seem neater with the pump inlet and outlet at the top but a pump motor full of water goes slower for a while then stops forever

Thinking a bit more, a 2mm rubber sheet cut out under the three jet nozzle would also work, to act as a shim and seal.

Oh and a 5 litre container of pre mixed screen wash and a funnel and hose for the far more frequent screen wash top ups..

Been for the mot, passed with one advisory, the right hand side outer track rod end has play.

Easy fix, I’ll do the pair and jobs a good one!

I'd have a check just to put yourself at ease. Even just driving past to have a look.

I just sent a message to check when mechanic Alex would be there and went down; always good for a chat. Everything is fine, just his mate Ady who is doing the the wiring is fitting it in around other things, rather than spending a day doing it in one hit. Plus he's now off sick.
It's looking very much neater now so far, with a fuse box for everything to run through, and all the wiring running in one bunch rather than bits all over the place.
I'm still being impatient to drive it, and Alex is wanting it out the way now - so hopefully next weekend.......

Glad you have sorted things out. It won't be long now, fingers crossed.

  8. Nothing on the bus lately, but yesterday I found what appears to be an NOS autobooks manual in a charity shop for £3. Very happy with that.[IMG]

On my progressive .. Measured the ported vacuum with the cold idle cam active.. idling at about 1600 RPM..
    20230212_163036.jpg
And then when the throttle is closed down onto the normal idle stop, idling at 850RPM.
    20230212_163056.jpg

Shows that a non- worn progressive can idle without vacuum advance (it's a 1985 vintage one bought for £21 off eBay last year to replace a 2010 vintage worn out progressive with 90k miles on it)

Put some H3 LEDs in the fog lamps .. not very bright compared with headlamps but now with the better LED headlamps they are more of an ornament, but they are at least as old as the bus.

Started fondling my Goodridge 200 fuel hose I bought to replace some random SAE30R9 stuff put in by the garage last summer.. 20230212_174656.jpg
    Stainless/nomex/stainless reinforced E100 proof hose..

Passed the RYA Regional Race Officer theory course at the Royal Southern Yacht Club at 1430 .. bus jobs done between 1530 and 1630..

  13. Not the Bay, thankfully. No probs with that fellow.

Faffed around with an early 2000s Polo, owned by a Millenial. "Do you think it's a good idea to drive around with the EPC light on, and the temp light flashing?" "Dunno. Is it on Instagram?".

Against my better judgement, tried sucking the oil of my Golf with one of those plastic ball pump things. It was spectacularly useless. Back to Screwfix in the morning...

  14. It felt a bit more like spring today :)

I managed to get some work done on the Bug, at last

I dropped off the driver's door for some rust repairs ages ago, then collected it 'in primer' before the holidays, meaning to do a dry run, before returning it for finishing.

It's been too wet, too cold or I've been busy.

Anyway, I am not completely happy, but not unhappy either, I really do need to get on with this to be ready for when the sun comes out. Anyway, I will to ask the body shop how to reduce the panel gap overall width, but it all lines up, reasonably well, using the old seal and the door catch :)

    Better than before, anyway.

What's the gap like the rest of the way round the door?

  16. Too narrow, at the front, if I was being honest.

Top, bottom, look good tho'

There is a whole procedure for adjusting the doors by loosening all the floor pan bolts and jacking the car up to adjust uneven gaps, but your gap looks relatively even at the back edge (maybe a tiny bit tighter at the bottom, but that might be the angle of the picture?)
You'd need to bend the mounting plates in the a pillars to move the door closer to the b pillar if the door is sitting too far forward. I had to do this with my passenger door on the baja by wedging a chisel in the hinge and then closing the door on it. It's a bit brutal but did the job.

Get stuck in Chris! Some of that looks very similar to the rust I'm addressing on my cab doors.
