Yes, now to keep tapping with a a ball peen hammer in increasing circles outwards until you get to the bit where it stops collapsing under a light tapping..the real hole will be a lot bigger when you reach weldable thickness metal.

Fired up the EDIS ignition controller with the coil pack and a VR sensor simulator...

Took it out for a run to see if it still worked.
It did, other than a very sticky throttle….

How many years has that cambelt been on it - this is the question I ask myself also as its just the 13 years now.......

Yes, it got annoying, now I am coughing a bit.. And it was actually very loud, the phone really didnt do it justice.

The panel it is all sitting on is intended to be bolted onto the ignition coil clamp fixing points.
That part of the setup implements a limp-home fixed 10 degree timing advance, so that would run the engine without any other help.

You might notice, the ignition coils actually put the spark plugs in series, theres no ground connection on the HT side, except for the cylinder heads being grounded. Seems to work in a Ford Ka.

I suppose that has the advantage that whichever spark plug gap of the two needs the higher voltage because its under compression, it gets a higher voltage.

In the voice of ‘Montgomery Scott’ “she’ll not take that many revs captain” :)

I don’t pretend to comprehend it - but I like it Mike

MOT Saturday, fingers crossed everything is good to go..it wasnt earlier tonight :(

Checked everything over, all brakes working and no leaks.

Only one headlight worked which was a surprise. Fuse # 3 kept blowing, I'd nicked a wire when I was messing with the headlight surrounds (had to put slightly longer screws in). Popped some heat shrink tube over the nick and all is well.

    Should be good to go!

  14. Lubed up all my door locks with that proper graphite stuff. Works a treat and now I have shiny silver fingers like some second rate Bond villain :)

Also ordered some of those tri-jet washer nozzles. My mot man complains every year that my washers don’t get enough water on the screen. I’ve been politely pointing out each time to him that they were probably like this from new and even when pumped up they’re still rubbish. Hopefully the new jets will be dumping enough water to finally shut him up. Might also actually be quite useful as I’ve been using the bus much more this winter and being able to see out could be a bonus.

You will loose pressure 3x faster as the water rushes out. Also if they are like mine, they needed a little sealant under them as the clips on the nozzles do not pull them down hard onto the front panel.

  16. The solution is actually to fit an electric pump

The pump-up system is an amusing novelty, but is basically crap.

Messaged for the third Friday running to see if Alex the mechanic was getting fed up tripping over the orange-camper-thing yet, as the engine has been back in for a number of weeks now.
All I wanted was the after-market wiring tidied up a bit after we stripped it all out to paint the engine bay..... perhaps a fuse box instead of all the inline fuses hanging off cable-ties, nothing fancy, just a bit tidier. The wiring chappie has been 'arriving imminently' (1st Friday), 'was hear yesterday and left his tools so that sounds promising that he's coming back' (last Friday), and 'was here yesterday and coming back today, I'll let you know' (Today).
Do you think they've actually lost it / had it stolen / set it on fire / crashed something into it, and they're now frantically trying to buy another orange campervan??!

  18. I would nip round there Sarah and see if Clem still exists ;) Sounds like his wiring guy is a figment of his imagination...

Worst case, get the wiring bodged back up and sort it when you're at home.

  19. Example: my pump-up washer system was in pretty good shape, and washed the screen (sort of). Converted to a rather modest Lucas electric pump, washer nozzles in the same position, and it shot the jets right over the roof, landing behind the back of the van. That's the difference.

Also as @mikedjames says, the triple washer nozzles don't actually fit well enough in the front panel unless you glue them in somehow. They'll wobble and point in all directions.

It was bodged up to start with!! It’s fine, it’ll be much better when it’s sorted… I’m just getting impatient to drive it and try out the twin carbs! We just seem to have stalled at the last hurdle temporarily.
I do have time this weekend so I’ll go and do me shopping at Lidl and nip in at the same time.
