  8. Filmore is fighting me. I think he knows he's going on holiday with us next week.
I changed the oil, checked tappets and plugs, then he refused to start. After lots of checking, I think the rotor arm wasn't seated properly, as that was the last thing I touched before he started. Why it came unseated when standing still I don't know.
went for a spin, and now he dies when you stop. Keeps dieing, won't idle at all, but drives fine at higher revs. What the hell is going on, I only changed the oil!!

  9. If he dies at idle, you’ve probably knocked the lead of the cutoff solenoid on the carb.

  10. Nope, checked that When it wouldn't start, it was chuffing back through the carb, so I think the idle jet might be fouled. If it ever stops raining, I'll check.

  14. Sorted now. Went out this morning and spotted the problem immediately. The plug on the vacuum port on the inlet manifold had dropped off. One of those wood for the trees things I guess. So celebrated by taking the family down to Worthing in him.

Yesterday : I was cut up by a Micra in the middle of an extremely heavy cloudburst, and I found the horn didnt work. They decided to drift left rather than filter into the correct lane, just in front of me, they almost suffered a self-inflicted PIT manouever as I missed them by about a metre.

Yesterday : fixed a ring terminal with a self tapper to the bottom of the steering column, with a wire tail threaded through to underneath to replace the horn spade connector. The wire had been sliced off when it caught on the bolts on the steering coupler. So I fitted a wire that does not risk hanging down into the cup at the bottom of the column (crossover column) . It reached the spade connector on the horn wire OK, so now the horn works.
This did involve lying under the bus with rain running down my neck off the A pillar, and my body getting wetter and wetter - I wanted to get the job done in case it turned into a cloudburst again...

Today - its at the MOT, hence the horn.

Now that’s what I call a rev counter! My initial guess by ear was too low (no Rev counter in dash)
